PostgreSQL / Cloud Automation Engineer

Location: Fully Remote

Overview

We are looking for a PostgreSQL / Cloud Automation Engineer to join the Data Platform and Enablement team. This role will focus on supporting and administering PostgreSQL environments across cloud platforms, with a strong emphasis on automation and operational efficiency.

The ideal candidate will be a PostgreSQL SME with hands-on experience working in cloud environments (preferrably Azure and GCP), along with strong scripting and automation skills.

Responsibilities

• Support the administration, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of PostgreSQL databases in cloud environments.
• Support and manage PostgreSQL database environments across Azure and GCP, including Azure Database for PostgreSQL and GCP Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL.
• Identify manual or repetitive database administration processes and develop automation to improve efficiency, consistency, and scalability.
• Build and maintain automation using Python and PowerShell.
• Automate database provisioning, configuration, maintenance, monitoring, and other operational tasks.
• Troubleshoot database performance, availability, connectivity, and operational issues.
• Partner with the Data Platform and Enablement team to improve database processes, tooling, and standards.
• Support database upgrades, patching, configuration changes, and other platform maintenance activities.
• Utilize Terraform and GitHub to support infrastructure and platform automation.
• Provide guidance and best practices to developers and internal application teams.
• Document database processes, automation, configurations, and operational procedures.

Required Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, particularly from an operational and database administration perspective.
• Hands-on experience working with Azure and GCP cloud environments.
• Experience supporting PostgreSQL and other database services in the cloud.
• Strong scripting and automation experience using Python and/or PowerShell.
• Experience automating database administration and operational processes.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Azure Database for PostgreSQL and/or Azure SQL.
• Experience with GCP Cloud SQL, particularly Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL.
• Experience developing automation with both Python and PowerShell.
• Experience with Terraform and GitHub.
• Experience supporting enterprise data platforms or data enablement teams.
• Experience with database monitoring, performance tuning, upgrades, patching, and high-availability environments.

What We're Looking For

The strongest candidate will be a PostgreSQL SME with strong Azure and GCP experience who also thinks like an automation engineer. They should be comfortable owning the operational side of PostgreSQL while proactively looking for opportunities to automate processes and improve the reliability, scalability, and efficiency of the Data Platform.
