Senior OpenShift Architect / Engineer (Contract)

Location: Remote (U.S. Eastern Time Zone preferred)

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM EST

Travel: Occasional travel may be requested. All approved business travel expenses are reimbursed.

Contract Length: Initial 3-month engagement with strong potential for extension up to 6-12 additional months based on project success.

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior OpenShift Architect / Engineer to lead the planning, design, implementation, and optimization of an enterprise Red Hat OpenShift platform.

This role requires a technical leader who combines deep OpenShift expertise with hands-on execution capabilities. The successful candidate will assess the current environment, define a strategic roadmap, implement improvements, and drive operational excellence across the platform.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess existing OpenShift environments and develop a practical roadmap for increased production readiness.
• Design and implement OpenShift networking architectures aligned with application and platform requirements.
• Diagnose and resolve cluster capacity, node health, storage, and workload stability issues.
• Design, implement, and improve GitOps workflows, CI/CD pipelines, automation processes, and delivery practices.
• Enhance Ansible Automation Platform capabilities, including governance, integrations, execution environments, and operational automation.
• Provide guidance on platform lifecycle management, upgrades, and version strategy.
• Establish architecture standards, operational procedures, documentation, and runbooks.
• Drive platform engineering initiatives from planning through execution.
• Collaborate closely with technical teams to provide hands-on mentoring, coaching, and knowledge transfer.
• Operate independently while solving complex infrastructure and platform challenges.

Required Qualifications

• OpenShift Virtualization certification(s) required.
• Extensive experience architecting, implementing, and operating Red Hat OpenShift in enterprise environments.
• Current Red Hat OpenShift certification or equivalent demonstrated expertise.
• Proven success advancing OpenShift platforms toward production operational readiness.
• Strong experience with Kubernetes, container platforms, and modern cloud-native architectures.
• Deep understanding of OpenShift and Kubernetes networking concepts.
• Experience troubleshooting cluster health, node capacity, storage, and application workload stability.
• Hands-on experience implementing GitOps, source control strategies, CI/CD pipelines, and platform automation.
• Strong expertise with Ansible Automation Platform, including governance, execution environments, integrations, and access controls.
• Ability to create architecture documentation, standards, operating procedures, and technical runbooks.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to work independently and lead complex technical initiatives with minimal oversight.

• Experience supporting large-scale enterprise OpenShift environments.
• Background in infrastructure as code and platform automation.
• Experience working in highly regulated or mission-critical environments.
• Strong Linux and Windows platform administration experience.
