An exciting opportunity has arisen in our Application Support Team for a permanent Automation Test Analyst based at our Newport Head Office, with hybrid working arrangements. This role will help the Society build out its automated testing suite and capabilities, supporting safer releases, stronger regression coverage and more efficient testing across our change and digital delivery activity.

What will you be doing?

As an Automation Test Analyst, you will design, build, execute and maintain automated tests that support the Society's testing strategy and quality assurance objectives. Working closely with the Test Manager, Test Analysts, Application Support, project teams, suppliers and business users, you will identify automation opportunities, develop reliable and maintainable automated tests, and provide clear evidence of outcomes. Using tools and technologies such as Playwright, Postman, Visual Studio Code, JavaScript and TypeScript, alongside other testing tools, frameworks and technologies where appropriate, you will help build and continuously improve the Society's automated testing capability. The role will also contribute to the evaluation, adoption and ongoing development of new testing approaches and technologies as the Society's testing maturity and automation capability evolves.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Design, develop, execute and maintain robust automated tests that support the Society's quality assurance and release objectives.
• Develop and maintain automation frameworks, scripts and supporting utilities, ensuring solutions are reliable, maintainable and reusable.
• Evaluate, adopt and support appropriate testing tools, technologies and approaches to enhance and continuously improve the Society's automated testing capability.
• Working with Test Analysts to identify repeatable test scenarios suitable for automation.
• Supporting functional, integration, regression and user acceptance testing where manual testing is required.
• Investigating automation failures and distinguishing between product defects, script issues, test data issues and environment constraints.
• Raising defects with clear supporting evidence and retesting fixes once available.
• Maintaining automated regression packs so they remain accurate following releases, fixes and system changes.
• Creating documentation for automation setup, execution, maintenance and known limitations.
• Contributing to automation standards, naming conventions, reusable components and good coding practices.
• Providing regular updates on automation progress, test execution results, defects, blockers and improvement opportunities.
• Helping embed a positive automation and testing culture across the Society.

What type of person will you need to be?

• Experienced in automated testing, with hands-on use of Playwright.
• Confident using Postman for API testing or related validation activity.
• Comfortable using Visual Studio Code and writing scripts in JavaScript and TypeScript.
• Analytical, detail-focused and able to investigate issues methodically.
• Able to create clear test evidence, document outcomes and communicate defects effectively.
• Collaborative and comfortable working with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
• Interested in continuous improvement and building a modern automated testing capability.
• Able to balance speed, quality, maintainability and control when creating automated tests.
• Organised, self-motivated and able to work within agreed priorities and delivery timelines.
• Ideally experienced in financial services, regulated environments or digital transformation projects.
