We are working with a leading organisation on a large-scale data and technology programme focused on improving data management, governance, and accessibility across the business.

The Role

As a Microsoft Purview Engineer, you'll play a key role in the implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of the Microsoft Purview platform. You'll work across data cataloguing, metadata management, data lineage, governance, and platform configuration, helping to improve the discovery, management, and visibility of data across the organisation.

The role also has a strong DevOps and automation focus. You'll work with Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, APIs, and configuration management to automate Purview deployments and ensure consistent configuration across development, test, and production environments.

You'll collaborate closely with data architects, governance teams, DevOps engineers, and wider technical stakeholders to support integrations, troubleshoot platform issues, and maintain a stable and well-governed data environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Configure and support Microsoft Purview environments, including data catalogues, classifications, glossaries, collections, and lineage.
• Manage metadata ingestion, scanning, data discovery, and governance processes.
• Build and maintain Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines and automate Purview deployments.
• Manage version-controlled configurations, environment changes, and rollback processes.
• Develop API integrations and custom connectors for metadata ingestion.
• Integrate Purview with Azure and AWS data platforms including ADF, Fabric, Databricks, Synapse, Power BI, SQL Server, and AWS S3/RDS.
• Provide production support, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
• Maintain technical documentation including configuration guides, runbooks, and knowledge articles.

About You

You will be a hands-on Microsoft Purview Engineer with strong experience across data governance, data cataloguing, metadata management, and Azure DevOps. You'll have experience implementing and supporting Purview within an enterprise environment, alongside strong knowledge of CI/CD, automation, APIs, and configuration management.

You'll be comfortable working across both data and engineering teams, troubleshooting production issues, automating deployments, and working with a range of Azure and cloud-based data platforms.

Key requirements:

• 3+ years' hands-on experience implementing and supporting Microsoft Purview.
• Strong experience with Data Catalogue, Data Governance, Metadata Management, and Data Lineage.
• Proven experience building and maintaining Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong understanding of YAML, Git, and Infrastructure as Code.
• Experience with Terraform, Bicep, ARM Templates, or similar IaC technologies.
• Experience with REST APIs, Purview APIs, custom connectors, and metadata ingestion.
• Strong Azure experience, ideally including Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Azure SQL, Fabric, and Power BI.
• Experience with PowerShell and/or Python for automation and integration.
• Experience managing configuration across multiple environments and implementing rollback processes.
• Experience supporting production environments and troubleshooting technical issues.
• Experience working within Agile delivery teams.
• Active SC clearance is essential.
• Experience with AWS data sources such as S3 or RDS would be advantageous.
• Experience with Databricks or other enterprise data platforms would be advantageous.
