Senior Software Engineer-Own Brand Product Systems

Responsibilities

Job Summary:

As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll deliver complex software solutions that support critical business capabilities across H-E-B. This role will focus on modernizing and enhancing the Own Brand Product System (OBPS), the platform used to manage the lifecycle of H-E-B Own Brand products from concept and sourcing through packaging, distribution, and publication of product data across enterprise systems.

You'll contribute to software development, system architecture, application modernization, infrastructure support, and production operations. This role requires a strong technical leader who can help drive a strategic AngularJS-to-Angular modernization effort while continuing to deliver business value through new features and enhancements.

Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions

• Works on technology projects and initiatives with limited guidance.
• Designs, develops, tests, and deploys production-ready software solutions.
• Writes high-quality, maintainable code that addresses security, performance, scalability, reliability, and edge cases.
• Leads and contributes to the modernization of legacy applications, including AngularJS-to-Angular migration efforts.
• Helps establish migration strategies, identifies technical risks, and recommends best practices for application modernization.
• Creates, configures, and supports build and deployment pipelines.
• Leads coding, testing, debugging, maintenance, and enhancement of existing and new systems.
• Supports and troubleshoots complex production incidents and participates in on-call support as needed.
• Leads root cause analysis efforts and drives implementation of corrective actions.
• Contributes to the management and support of application infrastructure and supporting technologies, including messaging platforms, caching technologies, and virtualized environments.
• Ensures system monitoring, observability, and alerting adhere to engineering best practices.
• Reviews technical designs and architecture to ensure quality, maintainability, scalability, and long-term sustainability.
• Identifies dependencies, risks, blockers, and technical challenges and proactively communicates mitigation plans.
• Collaborates with engineers, product teams, and business stakeholders to deliver solutions that meet organizational objectives.
• Mentors team members and promotes a culture of continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and documentation.
• Leads team ceremonies and larger engineering initiatives.
• Drives improvements to engineering processes, tools, and development practices.
• Influences technical decisions and helps align team priorities with broader organizational strategy.
• Fosters collaboration across teams and effectively manages cross-functional dependencies.

Qualifications & Key Requirements

Work Experience

• 5+ years of software engineering or software development experience.
• Experience designing, developing, and supporting enterprise applications.
• Experience with modern software engineering tools such as Git, Jira, and Confluence.
• Experience working in Agile development environments.
• Experience supporting production systems and participating in production support activities.
• Experience with both Angular JS and Angular.
• Experience leading or contributing to AngularJS to Angular migration initiatives.

Preferred Experience

• Experience modernizing large-scale enterprise applications.
• Experience developing applications using Java and modern web technologies.
• Experience building and supporting CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience working with RabbitMQ, Redis, Linux, Docker, cloud platforms, or related infrastructure technologies.
• Experience mentoring and coaching software engineers.
