Backend Java Developer: Shipping Integrations

When an online order leaves a warehouse, a lot of code decides which carrier picks it up, what it costs and how the buyer tracks it. This team writes that code. The company helps businesses of all sizes send parcels and freight across borders, and it has built a large, loyal customer base over many years.

It is growing year over year, has committed long-term investors, and is putting real money into its own software. Its developers treat AI tools as a normal part of the job, and the culture is hands-on and collaborative.

The team is hiring a Java Developer to help build what comes next.

About the role

Two projects anchor this work. The first is updating the core ERP system that runs orders, billing and operations. The second is a new product, offered as a hosted platform (PaaS), that lets outside companies reach many shipping carriers through one set of APIs. Some of your time will go to writing new services and some to improving older code.

This is a hands-on position at the mid level. You will sit alongside senior engineers and architects, help make design calls, and ship work that affects actual shipments for sellers in many countries.

What you'll be doing

• Write and support features in the company's shipping and online-commerce software, on both new services and older code that is being updated
• Build REST and event-driven APIs between internal systems and the outside parties the business works with: shipping carriers on one side, online sellers on the other
• Help create the hosted integration product so carriers in any country can connect through a single API
• Rely on AI assistants such as Claude and Copilot throughout your day, for drafting code, writing tests, producing documentation and getting ready for code reviews
• Take part in architecture reviews and pull request discussions with senior engineers and architects
• Sit down with Business Analysts to pin down what is needed, then deliver clean Java code with good test coverage
• Join the on-call schedule, help resolve production incidents and take part in post-mortems

What you bring

• 3+ years writing Java professionally, ideally on version 17 or newer
• Hands-on skill with Spring Boot, Spring MVC and Spring Data
• REST APIs you have built and consumed in production
• Experience with distributed systems built from microservices
• Strong basics: debugging, common design patterns, core data structures and code that others can maintain

Engineers who have worked in shipping, supply chain or ERP systems, or who have run workloads on AWS, tend to ramp up quickly here. None of these are required.
