Quantitative Research Engineer

Multiple Levels | Fairfield County, CT | Hybrid

$140K–$200K Base | $200K–$325K Total Compensation

The Opportunity

A global investment firm is expanding its quantitative engineering organization and is hiring Quantitative Research Engineers across multiple levels.

These are hands-on engineering roles at the intersection of software, data, AI, and quantitative research. Engineers work closely with quantitative researchers and investment professionals to build the systems used to analyze data, develop and test investment ideas, and support systematic investment strategies.

There are opportunities ranging from Associate/Mid-Level through Senior/VP, with scope and compensation aligned to experience.

What You’ll Work On

Depending on your experience and the team you join, your work may include:

  • Building Python-based research and analytical tools
  • Developing large-scale data ingestion, processing, and validation pipelines
  • Building research APIs and cloud-based services
  • Developing model computation and signal-generation workflows
  • Building optimization, simulation, and backtesting capabilities
  • Supporting portfolio and investment research workflows
  • Designing scalable AWS-based storage and computing infrastructure
  • Working with distributed systems, microservices, containers, and cloud infrastructure
  • Developing machine learning, NLP, and AI-driven applications
  • Applying LLMs and agentic technologies to research and engineering workflows
  • Working with large quantitative datasets
  • Developing technology solutions for specialized investment and research needs
  • Translating open-ended research or business problems into practical technical solutions

What We’re Looking For

We are interested in strong engineers across a range of experience levels. The most important qualities are strong technical fundamentals, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to solve open-ended problems.

Core qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field
  • Professional experience in software engineering, quantitative programming, or a related technical discipline
  • Strong Python skills
  • Experience with SQL and structured data
  • Experience working with Linux environments
  • Experience with AWS or another major cloud platform
  • Experience working with large or complex datasets
  • Strong understanding of software design, testing, and maintainable code
  • Exposure to scalable applications, distributed systems, APIs, containers, or microservices
  • Experience with or strong interest in modern AI technologies, including LLMs, AI agents, ML, or NLP
  • Ability to work through ambiguous requirements and determine an effective technical approach
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

Experience Levels

Associate / Mid-Level | Approximately 3–5 Years

We're looking for engineers with strong hands-on development experience who are interested in applying their technical skills to quantitative research and investment problems.

Particularly relevant experience includes Python, NumPy, Pandas, SQL, AWS, data engineering, distributed systems, AI/ML, or other technically demanding environments.

Senior | Approximately 7+ Years

Senior engineers will take greater ownership of architecture and complex technical initiatives, working directly with researchers and stakeholders to take ideas from concept through production.

We're particularly interested in experience with system architecture, large-scale data processing, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, production AI/ML, research platforms, or other complex production environments.

Experience in any of the following is a plus:

  • Quantitative research
  • Financial markets or fintech
  • Investment or trading systems
  • Quantitative development
  • Signal generation
  • Portfolio construction
  • Backtesting and simulation
  • Financial data
  • Machine learning infrastructure
  • AI/LLM applications
  • High-performance or distributed computing

Prior investment-management experience is not required. Strong software engineers from technology, fintech, AI, data, or other technically demanding environments are encouraged to apply.

What Makes This Interesting

The engineering team works directly with quantitative researchers on problems that often don't have a predefined technical solution.

Rather than simply receiving specifications, engineers are expected to understand the underlying problem, collaborate with stakeholders, and determine how best to build a scalable and reliable solution.

The work provides exposure to quantitative research, financial markets, large-scale data, cloud infrastructure, and applied AI while remaining highly technical and hands-on.

Location

Fairfield County, CT

Hybrid — 2–3 days per week in the office

Compensation

The expected compensation ranges across these openings are:

  • Associate / Mid-Level: $140,000–$160,000 base | $200,000–$225,000 total compensation
  • Senior: $160,000–$190,000 base | $300,000–$325,000 total compensation

Total compensation includes base salary and an annual discretionary bonus. Actual compensation will vary based on experience, skills, level, and other factors.
