ABOUT THE BUSINESS

We're working with a rapidly growing ecommerce business.

The company has experienced significant growth over the last 12–18 months and is now making a major investment into its internal technology capability.

Technology is becoming increasingly central to the business, with a substantial pipeline of e-commerce improvements, new applications, integrations and internal systems planned.

They are now building an internal development team around their CTO, creating an opportunity to join at an early stage and develop your career as the technology function grows.

THE ROLE

They're looking for a Junior Shopify Developer to join their team in Plymouth.

You'll work directly alongside the CTO, helping develop and maintain an established Shopify ecommerce platform while gaining exposure to a wide range of new technical projects.

This is a junior position, but they're looking for someone who already has practical development experience and a good understanding of the fundamentals of building for the web.

You'll work across Shopify development, themes, new functionality and integrations while developing your technical skills and taking on increasing ownership as you progress.

The immediate focus will be Shopify development, but as the internal engineering team grows there will be opportunities to gain experience across broader applications, integrations and bespoke internal software.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop and maintain the company's Shopify ecommerce platform
• Build and customise Shopify themes using Liquid
• Develop new functionality using JavaScript
• Work with HTML and CSS to create and improve storefront functionality
• Support Shopify apps and third-party integrations
• Assist with APIs and external systems
• Work from technical requirements to develop practical solutions
• Use Git and established development workflows to manage code
• Test, troubleshoot and improve existing functionality
• Work directly with the CTO on ecommerce and technology projects
• Develop your wider software engineering and full-stack skills

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE

• Practical Shopify development experience
• Experience working with Shopify Liquid
• JavaScript
• HTML and CSS
• Shopify theme development or customisation
• Understanding of Git / version control
• Good understanding of web development fundamentals
• Ability to troubleshoot problems and learn independently
• Comfortable working in a fast-moving development environment
• Able to work onsite in Plymouth 5 days per week

DESIRABLE, NOT ESSENTIAL

• Commercial Shopify development experience
• TypeScript
• Shopify Plus
• Shopify app development
• Shopify APIs and third-party integrations
• React
