Founding Engineer for Real-Time Social System

Twyne is looking for a founding engineer to help build the first version of a real-time system designed to bring people together in real life.

Overview

Twyne is building a system that helps people form real connections through small, scheduled group interactions. We are looking for an engineer to join our founding team. This is not a feed-based or messaging product. It is a time-based, orchestrated interaction system designed to reverse social isolation by reconnecting neighbors in real life. Users join at a specific time (e.g., Thursday at 7pm), are placed into small groups, and interact in a structured session. What you will work on:

Build the first working version of a session-based system

users select a time

system groups participants

sessions run with basic structure and timing

Implement session orchestration

manage group formation, timing, and flow

handle session start, duration, and completion

Design and implement a behavioral data model

sessions, interactions, and outcomes

capture enough signal to learn what works

Keep the product simple on the surface

minimal UI

low friction entry into sessions

We are looking for a Graduate Master’s student or recent graduate in:

Computer Science, HCI, or related field

Strong backend fundamentals

Comfortable building systems from scratch (AI-assisted coding experience welcome)

Able to work without fully defined requirements (co-creating a shared vision)

Interested in:

real-time or event-driven systems

human interaction and behavior

early-stage product development

human and community flourishing

Important characteristics:

Thinks in systems, not just features

This is not a standard app with screens and endpoints.

Comfortable with time-based interaction

Users show up at the same time and interact in groups.

Understands simple experience, complex backend

The product should feel minimal, even if the system is doing real work.

Not biased toward feed-based or on-demand products

This is a scheduled, shared experience model.

Engagement:

Equity-only (founding-level participation)

Flexible time commitment

Initial phase: 3–6 months to build a working prototype
