Test Automation Engineer

Project Overview

• Join a project focused on replacing an existing journalist reporting solution with a new MARS-based application.
• The application enables journalists to report their work, which is then used as the basis for payment calculations.
• The existing user portal is hosted in Azure, with AWS Lambda functions connected to Amazon SQS.
• The existing solution is being migrated to the MARS platform.
• Backend: Java
• Frontend: JavaScript and React

Role & Responsibilities

• Perform both manual and automated testing, with a strong focus on test automation.
• Develop and maintain automated UI tests using Cypress (JavaScript).
• Perform API testing using Postman collections, executed through Newman in the CI/CD pipeline.
• Evaluate opportunities to consolidate UI and API testing into a single automation framework.
• Build and maintain test automation frameworks from the ground up.
• Identify gaps in the existing testing approach and establish appropriate testing processes and practices.
• Work effectively in an environment with limited project and test documentation.
• Derive testing requirements and scenarios from:
• Jira tickets
• Generated code documentation
• Confluence pages
• Epic-level requirements and acceptance criteria
• Collaborate with the development and project teams to clarify requirements and ensure adequate test coverage.
• Communicate and present automation solutions, including the reasoning behind framework and design decisions.

Required Skills & Experience

• Experience with test automation using Cypress, Playwright, or a similar JavaScript-based framework.
• Hands-on experience with API testing using Postman.
• Strong knowledge of JavaScript.
• Basic familiarity with Java.
• Experience building and maintaining test automation frameworks from scratch.
• Comfortable working across both manual and automated testing.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to clearly explain and justify automation architecture and design decisions.
• Comfortable working with limited or incomplete documentation and independently gathering the information needed for testing.

Nice to Have

• Experience with AWS infrastructure.
• Experience with BDD (Behavior-Driven Development).
• Experience working with BDD-style acceptance criteria.
