Senior Back End Specialist (m/f/d) - Financial Indexes

We are expanding our IT Team in Frankfurt am Main and are seeking a Senior Back End Specialist with deep expertise in scalable, high-performance backend systems to power data-driven financial applications.

As a Senior Back End Specialist, you will lead the design, architecture, and optimization of backend services that deliver high-quality, accurate, and timely financial data. You will work closely with front-end developers, operations, product development, and product managers to build systems that ensure reliability, speed, and security. This is a senior role requiring technical leadership, mentoring, and hands-on contribution to complex, data-intensive systems. You will work closely with the CTO and the Head of Back End Development on new IT projects, playing a key role in shaping the company's technical roadmap.

Key Responsibilities:

• Architect & Develop Back-End Systems: Lead the design and development of APIs, databases, and services for financial data applications.
• Ensure Data Integrity & Performance: Architect scalable, fault-tolerant systems to deliver complex financial datasets with precision and low latency.
• Real-Time Data Processing: Design and optimize systems for ingesting, processing, and serving real-time financial data with low latency and high reliability.
• Strategic Collaboration: Work closely with the CTO and Head of Back End Development on new IT projects, contributing to technical strategy, architecture decisions, and project planning.
• Cross-Functional Leadership: Collaborate with front-end developers, product managers, and analysts to drive end-to-end delivery of data solutions.
• High Availability & Observability: Implement advanced monitoring, troubleshooting, and reliability strategies for production backend services.
• Code Quality & Mentorship: Lead code reviews, establish best practices in coding, testing, and documentation, and mentor junior developers.
• Stay Current: Drive adoption of new backend technologies, data processing techniques, and financial data engineering best practices.

Required Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. A Master's degree is a plus.
• Experience: 7+ years in back-end development, with at least 2+ years in a senior or lead role. Experience in finance or fintech is a strong plus.
• Global team experience: Proven experience working in a global, distributed team across multiple time zones.

Technical Skills (Required):

• Python (5+ years minimum experience)
• Pandas (3+ years minimum experience)
• FastAPI (3+ years minimum experience)
• PostgreSQL & advanced SQL (5+ years minimum experience)
• Event-Driven Systems and Real-time architectures (Proven experience)
• MQP-based messaging systems (RabbitMQ preferred) (General knowledge)

Other requirements: REST API design, time-series databases (general knowledge), AWS (EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda), data security best practices, performance tuning, monitoring tools.

Nice to Have

• Financial domain knowledge (financial markets, indexes, fintech)
• Distributed systems design for real-time, large-volume data
• DevOps skills (CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, automated deployments)
