Our client seeks an experienced backend leader who can build secure, scalable, and maintainable systems using Python and Django while establishing technical standards and best practices. You'll work at the intersection of software engineering and medical device regulations, translating complex requirements into robust technical solutions.

This role combines hands-on development with technical leadership, where you'll design DiGA-specific interfaces, integrate with external healthcare systems, and strengthen technical quality across the team through code reviews, mentoring, and knowledge sharing.

Key responsibilities

• Technical Leadership: Take technical leadership of the backend for the native app for AI-supported gait analysis, shaping technological direction and architectural decisions
• Backend Development: Build secure, scalable, and maintainable backend systems using Python and Django
• Standards Establishment: Establish and continuously improve technical standards, best practices, and sustainable development processes
• Healthcare Integration: Design and integrate DiGA-specific interfaces, external healthcare systems, third-party services, and APIs
• Requirements Engineering: Refine complex requirements from a technical perspective and turn them into implementation-ready development tickets
• Team Quality: Strengthen technical quality across the team through code reviews, mentoring, and knowledge sharing
• Process Improvement: Drive continuous improvement of automated testing, CI/CD, monitoring, and release processes
• Regulatory Translation: Translate regulatory, data protection, and cybersecurity requirements into robust technical solutions
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Shape technical decisions in close collaboration with Product Management, Quality Management, Regulatory Affairs, and Development
• Documentation & Compliance: Create technical and regulatory documentation and support audits, security assessments, penetration tests, and approval processes

Candidate requirements

• Professional Experience: At least 6 years of professional software development experience, including senior or technical leadership role (working-student and internship time does not count)
• Medical Software Background: Proven experience in medical software, digital health applications, or software as a medical device
• Python/Django Expertise: Strong hands-on expertise in Python and Django
• Database & API Skills: Solid experience with PostgreSQL, REST APIs, and modern authentication/authorization concepts
• Architecture Understanding: Deep understanding of robust software architectures, scalable systems, secure coding, and sustainable technical solutions
• Development Practices: Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, version control, and code reviews
• Independent Working Style: Strong technical ownership with ability to support and develop other engineers
• English Communication: Excellent English communication skills (German language explicitly not required)

Desirable (but not required):

• Experience with React or comparable modern frontend technologies
• Knowledge of MDR, GDPR, BSI, data protection, and cybersecurity
• Experience with DiGA-specific processes and integrations with external healthcare systems
• German language skills
