UTEP's CS department is part of the Miguel A. Loya College of Engineering, along with six other academic departments. The CS department is deeply committed to student professional development and advancement through faculty mentoring and research engagement at all levels. The department offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science, a B.S. in Artificial Intelligence, and M.S. degrees in Software Engineering and Artificial Intelligence. The B.S. in CS offers concentrations in Software Engineering, Secure Cyber-Systems, and Data Analytics, with a Secure Cyber-Systems concentration also available at the graduate level. Through CS undergraduate and graduate programs, UTEP is designated as an NSA Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense, Cyber Operations, and Cybersecurity Research. The department values interdisciplinary research and does research in collaboration with numerous external and internal partners.

CS faculty lead impactful research in areas such as Software Engineering, Computer Systems, Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, and Theoretical Foundations of CS. Our faculty are nationally recognized for their scholarship and national leadership in professional organizations, and the department consistently ranks among the highest at UTEP in research expenditures. With a vibrant academic community of 25 tenured and tenure-track faculty members, as well as four instructional faculty members, we foster innovation, collaboration, and student success.

The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor Position in Computer Science (CS), with a research focus on Systems, including but not limited to Operating Systems, Distributed Systems, Embedded Systems, HPC, Compilers, Software Design and Validation for Real-time and Numerical Systems, Programming Languages, Signal Processing and System Control, Systems Security and Reliability, and Computer Networks, starting in the Fall of 2027.

Candidates are expected to have a record of high-quality scholarship and should be able to demonstrate the potential for excellence in both research and teaching. The department values and encourages interdisciplinary research, providing a unique opportunity for collaboration across fields. We also value industry experience, recognizing the importance of real-world applications in research, in particular for this position.

Job Requirements

Applicants must hold a doctorate in CS or a closely related field by the time of appointment. Successful candidates must demonstrate excellent communication skills, the ability to establish an active research program, and a strong commitment to student success and to UTEP's Access to Excellent Higher Education mission.
