Back End Developer

Company Description

websquids LLC is a Cairo-based software company founded in 2015. Alongside our client work, we build and operate our own SaaS products. This role sits on one of them: a live e-invoicing and tax compliance platform for businesses in the Saudi market, with paying customers who run their books on it. We value clean code, lean infrastructure, and engineers who own what they ship all the way to production.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Backend Developer role at our New Cairo office, starting immediately. It is product engineering, not client project work.

You'll build and maintain the platform's backend in Python / FastAPI with SQLAlchemy and PostgreSQL. Day-to-day, that includes:

• Compliance-critical flows such as the invoice model, digital signing, XML/UBL, and ledger posting
• Stripe billing: plans, webhooks, provisioning, and edge cases
• Background workers and sync jobs that are idempotent and observable
• Data migrations across live multi-tenant data
• Debugging production on GCP, behind Docker, Traefik, and Cloudflare

You'll work directly with the CPTO, with code review on every change.

Qualifications

• 3+ years shipping production Python, with FastAPI or an equivalent async framework
• Hands-on SQLAlchemy experience: sessions, relationships, and their common pitfalls
• Strong PostgreSQL skills, including schema design, indexing, transactions, and safe migrations on live data
• Practical Docker and Linux, and the ability to diagnose issues from production logs
• Solid Git habits and reviewable pull requests
• Working written English

Nice to have: accounting, ERP, or fintech domain experience; Stripe in production; government API integrations or digital signing; multi-tenant SaaS architecture.

Hiring process: no take-home assignment. Shortlisted candidates join a two-hour technical session at our office. We go through your past work, then build a small FastAPI endpoint together.
