Senior Go Software Engineer

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Required

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong Go expertise.
• Solid understanding of REST API design, gRPC, and Protocol Buffers.
• Experience integrating third-party APIs, including handling protocol and format translation.
• Familiarity with async and event-driven patterns (message queues, workflow engines, or equivalent).
• Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL) and cloud infrastructure (AWS).
• Able to read and extend existing codebases confidently without over-engineering.
• Professional working English, written and spoken.

The Configurations Lab helps companies integrate modern AI capabilities that creates meaningful impact. We work across all industries to bring understanding to how AI agents can become partners and supercharge results.

We are building a modern connectivity layer between AI-driven channels — conversational agents, chatbots, and partner-facing APIs — and a large-scale insurance platform. The existing architecture was designed for browser-based customer journeys and needs to evolve to support AI-native experiences end-to-end. You will contribute to a focused engineering effort building the services and integration patterns that make this possible. The work combines greenfield API design with pragmatic integration of existing backend systems. You coordinate with an internal technical lead on architecture, scope, and priorities, while retaining autonomy over how you work.

WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON

• Build and maintain Go microservices that expose a clean, unified API surface across quote, pricing, policy, and payment operations.
• Design integration adapters that abstract protocol heterogeneity (REST, gRPC, SOAP, XML) behind consistent internal interfaces.
• Implement async and event-driven patterns to replace synchronous polling in payment and policy lifecycle flows.
• Contribute to API contract definitions (OpenAPI, Protobuf) as the source of truth for new interfaces.
• Write unit and integration tests against real backing services.
• Take part in design reviews, code review, and async collaboration across time zones.

ENGAGEMENT & WORKING ARRANGEMENTS

This is an independent contractor (B2B) engagement, not employment. You provide services through your own company or as an independent professional, invoice for your work, and remain responsible for your own taxes, equipment, and statutory contributions.

• Fully remote, open to contractors based in LatAm
• You collaborate with a team of 4–5 engineers and coordinate with an internal technical lead on architecture and priorities. As an independent contractor, you manage your own working methods and schedule.
• Async-first collaboration.

SCHEDULE & MEETINGS

Some recurring meetings, such as design reviews and planning, are scheduled during European working hours. Otherwise the engagement is async and self-directed.

COMPENSATION

Competitive contractor rate, aligned with senior-level experience, invoiced under an independent services agreement.

Nice to have

• OpenAPI contract-first development experience.
• Familiarity with Kafka or event streaming platforms.
• Background in fintech, insurtech, or regulated payment integrations.
• Experience with secrets management in production environments (Vault or equivalent).
