Lead Embedded Software Engineer

We are looking for an experienced Lead Embedded Software Engineer to join a technical leadership function within industrial power electronics and embedded systems, working on mission-critical firmware for resource-constrained, safety-relevant hardware.

This role sits at the intersection of hands-on embedded development and technical leadership. You will own architecture decisions, guide implementation quality across the team, and ensure the firmware meets strict reliability, security, and maintainability standards expected in an industrial environment.

What you will do

You will take architectural ownership of embedded firmware, from bootloader and BSP design through to secure update mechanisms and long-term supportability. You will work close to the hardware, debugging peripherals such as SPI, I2C, CAN and UART using oscilloscopes and logic analyzers, and making sound engineering tradeoffs between cost, timing, memory, power, safety and scalability. You will drive CI/CD and test automation practices for embedded environments, including hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, and raise the engineering bar through code reviews and mentoring of the wider team. You will communicate technical decisions clearly to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders, and lead technical direction without becoming a bottleneck.

What we are looking for

Strong fundamentals in C, including memory management, concurrency, interrupts and performance optimization in embedded environments. Solid hardware-near software experience, including firmware architecture and modular design beyond feature-level implementation. Practical knowledge of bootloaders, BSPs, device drivers and secure firmware update mechanisms. Experience designing for reliability constraints such as watchdogs, fault handling, deterministic timing and power management in resource-constrained systems. Familiarity with embedded cybersecurity fundamentals, including secure boot, code signing, threat modeling and vulnerability handling. Experience with CI/CD and test automation for embedded systems, including HIL testing. A track record of technical leadership, architecture ownership and mentoring in engineering teams.

Location: Preferably based in Germany or remote within Europe, with occasional travel to Neumünster, Germany.
