Senior Electrical Engineer (FPGA / Digital Hardware)

Syracuse, New York | $100,000 to $136,000 per year | On-site

This role is with a growing sensing technology manufacturer that designs equipment for U.S. Department of Defense programs, based in the Syracuse, New York area. The company builds digital hardware, FPGA-based systems, and high-speed electronics for next-generation sensing products, and this engineer will lead hardware design work within a multidisciplinary engineering team across the full product development lifecycle.

What You'll Do

• Lead the design and development of digital hardware for next-generation products
• Design multi-layer PCBs, develop schematics, and support board layout activities
• Architect and develop FPGA solutions using VHDL and/or Verilog on modern Xilinx platforms
• Design high-speed digital interfaces, data acquisition systems, digital signal processing (DSP), and communication architectures
• Perform hardware integration, testing, validation, troubleshooting, and production support
• Write Python and Bash scripts to automate engineering workflows
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
• 5+ years of digital hardware design experience
• Experience designing analog and digital circuits, including FPGAs, microcontrollers, memory, and high-speed interfaces
• Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and similar lab equipment
• Experience with VHDL and/or Verilog
• U.S. citizenship required, with the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Altium Designer
• Experience with Xilinx Vivado
• Experience with RF systems or software defined radio (SDR)
• Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, and Linux
• Experience leading design reviews or providing technical leadership on hardware projects
