Mechanical Design Engineer: Humanoid Hardware

Mechanical Design Engineer: Humanoid Hardware
Seoul Gangnam·Full-time·5+ years in mechanical design
About The Role
FRIDAY is Holiday's first industrial humanoid, designed to take on repetitive, physically demanding work. It has to hold up on a real customer floor - not for a demo, but shift after shift.
You design the mechanical hardware that makes that possible. This is not a single-module role. Arms, hands, full-body structure, mobile base, and actuators are all in scope, and you own the work from concept design through drawing release and production handoff.
This role is centered on hands-on mechanical design. If you have also worked across robotics production and safety certification, it can grow: setting design direction for manufacturability and compliance with applicable safety standards, and guiding the rest of the team on both.
Key Areas

What You'll Do
- Design and develop mechanical systems for humanoid robots, including arms, hands, full-body structures, and mobile bases.
- Design and size actuator mechanisms incorporating frameless BLDC motors, gear reducers, and bearings.
- Develop mechanical integration for battery packs and electrical packaging, including IP-rated enclosure and sealing designs.
- Create 3D CAD parts and assemblies, and release drawings with ASME Y14.5 GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis.
- Validate designs through structural, thermal, and vibration FEA, and design test rigs and fixtures for durability, lifecycle, and environmental testing.
- Perform root cause analysis of mechanical failures and wear found during testing, and implement design improvements.
- Transition early-stage designs into production through design improvements, component standardization, and cost and manufacturing-effort reduction.
- Conduct DFM/DFA reviews for injection molding, die casting, sheet metal, and precision machining, and work with suppliers through tooling trials and first-article inspections.
- Establish part inspection criteria, process capability (Cp/Cpk), and yield standards, and manage design configuration through BOMs and ECOs.
- Incorporate mechanical safety requirements defined by the safety and certification teams into the design.
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- 5+ years of professional experience in mechanical design and development.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD for part and assembly design. We use Onshape and SolidWorks in-house, but experience with other CAD platforms is welcome.
- Strong knowledge of ASME Y14.5 GD&T, including creating engineering drawings and performing tolerance stack-up analysis.
- Ability to validate designs and make sound engineering decisions using structural and thermal FEA, backed by first-principles calculations.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and design constraints across injection molding, die casting, sheet metal, and precision machining, with experience working with suppliers through tooling trials, first-article inspections, and production ramp-up.
- Experience integrating motors, gear reducers, encoders, sensors, wire harnesses, and PCBAs into mechanical systems.
- Ability to write clear technical documentation - test plans, design documentation, and interface specifications.
- Experience spanning mechanical design, production, and safety certification for robotics products.
- Experience designing mechanical systems against robotics safety standards such as ISO 10218-1/-2, ISO/TS 15066, and ISO 13849-1.
- Experience designing compact, high-density mechanisms such as multi-jointed robotic hands and grippers.
- Experience designing backdrivable, low-inertia drivetrains.
- Experience with mechanical design and packaging of battery packs.
- Experience with PLM-based configuration management and ECO processes.
- Experience using Python to automate engineering calculations and analyze test data.
- Competitive compensation based on experience, level, and technical impact.
- The tools, equipment, and prototyping support needed to do your best work.
- The opportunity to design, build, and test directly on FRIDAY and the Holiday Robotics full stack.
- Close collaboration with engineers across electrical, firmware, control, production, and safety certification.
