Design Engineer II

The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical aptitude, extensive automotive knowledge, and the ability to independently manage projects while mentoring junior engineers and technicians.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop new aftermarket automotive products using SolidWorks, including 3D models, assemblies, manufacturing drawings, and BOMs
- Lead engineering projects from concept through production release while maintaining schedule and project objectives
- Apply engineering principles including materials, mechanics, thermodynamics, and manufacturing processes to optimize product performance, durability, and cost
- Perform reverse engineering using 3D scanning, CMM, CAD modeling, and physical measurements
- Develop and execute product validation plans including vehicle testing, durability testing, and performance evaluations
- Review prototype and production components to verify design intent and manufacturing quality
- Collaborate with purchasing and suppliers to support manufacturability, sourcing, and product launch
- Support technicians during prototype installation, troubleshooting, and product validation
- Prepare engineering documentation including drawings, BOMs, RFQs, test reports, and revision records
- Participate in design reviews and provide technical guidance to Engineering Technicians and junior engineers
- Communicate project status, technical risks, and design decisions with cross-functional teams
- Support continuous improvement of engineering standards, processes, and product quality
- Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or related field, or equivalent experience
- Minimum 2 years of professional mechanical design experience
- Advanced SolidWorks proficiency
- Strong understanding of GD&T, manufacturing drawings, and common manufacturing processes
- Strong understanding of automotive systems including engine, drivetrain, suspension, braking, and exhaust systems
- Ability to independently research technical problems and develop practical engineering solutions
- Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 4+ years of automotive product development experience
- Experience with FEA, CFD, or engineering simulation
- Experience with 3D scanning, CMM, PolyWorks, or reverse engineering software
- Experience with dynamometers, flow benches, strain gauges, or data acquisition systems
- Experience designing machined, cast, fabricated, sheet metal, composite, or plastic components
- Passion for automotive performance and motorsports
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
- Full-time onsite schedule with occasional overtime
- Flexible hours may occasionally be required to support testing and production activities
- Engineer manufacturable, validated designs that meet performance, durability, and cost targets while minimizing late-stage changes and production issues.
- Independently researches complex technical challenges and delivers practical, data-driven solutions that improve product performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
- Demonstrates the ability to advance assigned R&D projects from concept through merchandising within agreed timelines established during project specification.
