Heating Air Conditioning Design Engineer

Position Overview

We are seeking a Heating & Air Conditioning Design Engineer to design and develop HVAC systems for commercial, industrial, and/or institutional building projects. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of HVAC system design, heating and cooling load calculations, equipment selection, and applicable building codes and standards.

Experience with Trane TRACE 700 or comparable HVAC load calculation and energy analysis software is required.

Key Responsibilities

• Design heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems for new construction and renovation projects.
• Perform heating and cooling load calculations and determine equipment requirements.
• Utilize Trane TRACE 700 or equivalent software to perform HVAC load calculations and system analysis.
• Select appropriate HVAC equipment, including air handling units, rooftop units, chillers, boilers, pumps, fans, and associated components.
• Develop HVAC plans, schematics, equipment schedules, and design specifications.
• Coordinate HVAC designs with architectural, electrical, plumbing, structural, and other engineering disciplines.
• Review project requirements and develop practical, energy-efficient HVAC solutions.
• Perform ductwork and piping sizing and assist with system pressure-drop calculations.
• Prepare equipment schedules, design documentation, calculations, and technical specifications.
• Review drawings and submittals and provide technical guidance during construction.
• Conduct site visits and assist with field investigations and troubleshooting when required.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable building codes, ASHRAE standards, mechanical codes, and project requirements.
• Communicate with clients, contractors, vendors, architects, and other engineering professionals throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• 3+ years of HVAC design engineering experience preferred.
• Hands-on experience with Trane TRACE 700 or comparable HVAC load calculation/design software.
• Strong understanding of HVAC system design, equipment selection, ductwork, piping, and building mechanical systems.
• Experience with AutoCAD and/or Revit MEP preferred.
• Knowledge of ASHRAE standards, IMC/International Mechanical Code, and applicable local building codes.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or EIT certification is a plus.
