Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Associate Telecoms Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Perth, Australia.
Key Responsibilities
You will support an experienced telecommunications engineering team in the design, testing, implementation, and delivery of communications systems for major infrastructure projects.
This role is suited to a recent engineering graduate or early-career engineer with 0–2 years’ experience who is keen to develop practical skills across telecommunications systems, IP networking, radio communications, fibre optic and copper transmission systems, power systems, and related infrastructure.
Required skills and knowledge:
- You are a recent university graduate or early-career engineer with up to 1–2 years’ experience in telecommunications, electrical, electronics, or computer engineering.
- You have a strong interest in telecommunications systems, IP networking, radio communications, transmission networks, and engineering design or testing activities.
- You are keen to learn from senior engineers and develop your capability in design documentation, configuration support, testing, commissioning, and project delivery.
- You have good analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to understand technical information and apply it in a practical engineering environment.
- You communicate clearly, ask questions when needed, and are comfortable working in a team environment with engineers, project teams, clients, vendors, and site personnel.
- You have a proactive attitude, strong attention to detail, and a willingness to support site-based and office-based engineering activities as required.
- You are committed to working safely, learning industry standards, and contributing to high-quality project outcomes.
- Ability to prepare or support technical documentation, drawings, test records, reports, and engineering deliverables under supervision.
- Strong computer literacy, willingness to learn new tools, and interest in developing technical capability across design, testing, and commissioning activities.
- Eligibility for graduate membership with Engineers Australia, or willingness to work towards professional engineering development.
