Discipline Lead – Structural Analysis Specialist
Our client are seeking an experienced and technically accomplished Senior Structural Analysis Engineer to take on a Discipline Lead role within their project team, on a full time basis.
This opportunity would suit a structural engineering specialist who holds extensive experience in FLNG, FPSO, offshore installations and complex marine structures. The successful profile will combine technical authority and hands-on engineering expertise, with discipline leadership and client engagement.
For transparency, our client are an international Design and Analysis Consultancy, with parent-ownership and investment in the form of two multi-national (heavily funded) ship yards. The set up and model of our clients business is one-of-one in Scandinavia, very likely Europe as well.
What will you be doing?
- This person will lead the structural analysis discipline and oversee structural design verification across marine and offshore projects.
- You will act as the technical authority and co-ordinator for structural analyses, calculations, design verification and engineering deliverables.
- Serve as the principal technical point of contact for clients, shipyards, classification societies and project partners.
- Perform and supervise global and local structural analyses covering hull structures, topside modules, support structures, foundations and marine systems.
- Develop structural analysis methodologies and ensure compliance with project specifications, classification rules and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct and review Ultimate Limit State (ULS), Accidental Limit State (ALS) and Fatigue Limit State (FLS) assessments.
- Undertake structural assessments relating to transportation, lifting, installation, in-place operations and life-extension studies.
- Support classification approval activities, including technical submissions, clarifications and design reviews.
- Participate in design reviews, constructability reviews and risk assessments where structural integrity is a key consideration.
- Contribute to concept development, FEED studies, EPC project execution and tender activities.
- Collaborate closely with marine engineering, naval architecture, mechanical, process, piping and project management disciplines.
- Provide technical guidance, mentoring and support to engineers within the structural discipline.
Qualifications and Experience
- A BSc or MSc in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Marine Structures, Naval Architecture, Offshore Engineering or a related discipline.
- Typically, 10–15 or more years of relevant experience gained within offshore, marine, FPSO, FLNG or shipbuilding projects.
- Proven experience as a Team Lead, Discipline Lead or Senior/Principal Structural Analysis Engineer within multidisciplinary projects.
- Strong knowledge of structural mechanics, finite element analysis, strength assessment and structural integrity management.
- Extensive experience in global and local finite element analysis for offshore and marine structures.
- Demonstrable experience in ULS, FLS and ALS assessments.
- A sound understanding of requirements issued by ABS, DNV and other major classification societies.
- Practical experience with industry-standard analysis software, such as DNV Sesam GeniE, Sestra, Nauticus Hull, ABS Eagle Unified, ABS DLA/SFA SHIP, ABS Eagle FPSO, Simcenter FEMAP, MSC Nastran or equivalent tools.
- Experience working with FPSOs, FLNGs, FSOs, offshore platforms, module structures, topside supports and marine hull structures.
- Experience in hull-girder strength assessments, topside integration, module foundation design, fatigue-life assessments and structural modifications would be highly advantageous.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. Knowledge of Norwegian would be an advantage.
