ZEISS Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology Enabler for smaller, more powerful, and energy-efficient microchips — where tomorrow is created.

About 80 percent of all microchips worldwide are produced with ZEISS technologies. As the heart of every electronically controlled system, they have become indispensable in everyday life — whether in smartphones, smart homes, or smart factories. ZEISS is a technology leader in semiconductor manufacturing equipment. With ultra-precise lithography optics, photomask systems, and process-control solutions, ZEISS enables ever-smaller, more powerful, and energy-efficient microchips — helping to shape the era of micro- and nanoelectronics with its innovations.

In the Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology (SMT) business area, you assume technical responsibility for demanding microsystems components and their integration into complex overall systems. You combine deep expertise in microsystems engineering with a broad understanding of electronics and packaging, and you are able to analyze and assess complex system interactions. As a central technical interface, you work within a development team closely with internal specialist functions as well as external development and manufacturing partners.

Your role

  • In an interdisciplinary team, you are responsible for the design, specification, and further development of microsystems and subsystems across the entire development lifecycle.
  • You develop and evaluate system architectures, derive requirements, and ensure their coherent implementation.
  • You analyze interactions between microsystems, electronics, packaging, control, environmental conditions, and the overall system — with a particular focus on electro-mechanical interfaces.
  • In a functional interface role to suppliers and development partners, you steer and evaluate development contributions in terms of design, technology, performance, quality, and manufacturability.
  • You define modeling, simulation, characterization, and verification approaches, analyze deviations, and derive robust system solutions.
  • You prepare technology and architecture decisions, present them to stakeholders, and strengthen knowledge growth in microsystems engineering and adjacent disciplines.

Your profile

  • Degree in microsystems engineering, electrical engineering, mechatronics, physics, mechanical engineering, or a comparable field
  • Several years of experience in development, system design, or integration of MEMS, ideally in collaboration with suppliers, foundries, or development partners
  • Solid knowledge of operating principles, architectures, fabrication technologies, and system boundaries of microelectromechanical systems. Deeper electronics knowledge is a plus.
  • Broad system understanding in adjacent areas, especially electronics, packaging, control, testing, and reliability
  • Experience in requirements engineering as well as verification, validation, characterization, and fault analysis
  • Knowledge of microsystem process technology, especially surface- and volume-micromechanics, and experience in modeling and simulation of microsystems are advantageous
  • Ability to address complex questions technically in depth while also at the system level
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills and a confident presence at interdisciplinary and cross-organizational interfaces
  • Fluent German at C1 level and good English at B2 level

If you want to apply your microsystems expertise to holistically develop demanding adaptive optical systems and bring them together with internal and external partners into high-performance systems, we look forward to your application.
