Company Overview

A leading 100% employee-owned MEP engineering and construction firm is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer III to support complex projects ranging from new design-build construction to the rehabilitation of existing facilities and building systems.

The firm provides engineers the opportunity to remain technically hands-on while gaining greater project responsibility, exposure to construction, and opportunities to mentor developing engineers.


Position Overview

The Design Engineer III will lead, evaluate, design, and engineer mechanical building systems while providing ongoing technical guidance and resolving engineering challenges throughout the project lifecycle.


This position is suited for an experienced mechanical engineer who can independently solve complex design problems while providing direction to less-experienced engineers.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and engineering of mechanical building systems
  • Perform complex calculations and develop drawings and specifications for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and related systems
  • Perform heating and cooling load calculations, equipment selection and sizing, friction loss calculations, and hydraulic calculations
  • Develop standards and procedures for reviewing, evaluating, and inspecting designs
  • Determine effective solutions to complex engineering problems
  • Direct the workflow of less-experienced engineers on assigned projects
  • Mentor engineers and provide technical design guidance
  • Prepare technical narratives and responses to RFIs
  • Support projects ranging from new design-build construction to existing facility rehabilitation
  • Provide technical guidance and engineering issue resolution throughout project delivery


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • Minimum 5 years of experience
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, fire suppression, and related building systems
  • Strong understanding of mechanical system design and operation
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and plumbing plans
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
