About The Role
The Engineer is responsible for developing and documenting engineered pumping and dewatering solutions from bid through project execution. This role reviews project documentation, including geotechnical reports, boring logs, plans, civil drawings, and project specifications, and performs hydraulic, fluid, and chemical compatibility analyses to develop safe, effective, and cost-efficient solutions.
The Engineer will evaluate and validate bypass pumping and dewatering systems, prepare scope letters and technical documentation, and communicate directly with customers, contractors, Sales, and Operations. The role supports the complete lifecycle of temporary engineered pumping and dewatering systems, from initial bid and system design through execution.
As a part of the Engineering team, you support a broad range of specialty pumping and dewatering services and works closely with teams across the organization to deliver technically sound solutions.
What You'll Do
- Assist in writing comprehensive technical quotations and scope letters based on plans and specifications provided with the knowledge of Ironclad Powered by Mersino’s cost structure and product line to be delivered by the Sales staff.
- Evaluate hydraulic designs, including TDH calculations, friction losses, suction lift NPSH, series and parallel pumping, gravity/open channel sewer capacity, data center modeling and pump selection
- Perform a technical risk review of high value and/or critical projects prior to bid submission, documenting design assumptions, limitations, potential failures, and recommend risk reducing solutions
- Evaluate constructability of temporary dewatering and pumping systems, including sequencing, site and safety constraints
- Prepare and review technical project submittals, calculations, equipment data, drawings, sequence of operations, and RFI responses for approval by a Professional Engineer (PE)
- Review chemical Safety Data Sheets (SDS) or other documents to determine chemical compatibility of products offered by IRONCLAD
- Summarize technical data on projects, analyze that data, and prepare reports to present project details to management.
- Lead field commissioning, performance verification, and validation of large or technically complex projects. Troubleshooting involving system design, such as, but not restricted to, hydraulic analysis, fluid dynamics, and system modeling.
- Evaluate engineering plans, drawings, specifications, and addendums to prepare scope letters and prepare detailed technical reports and analyses based on engineering specifications
- Conduct post-project audits and analyses of completed projects through organization of available project data for review with cross-functional departments to improve overall company project management
- Observe, retain, and apply skills and knowledge obtained at the workplace
What You'll Bring
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical, Mechanical or related engineering discipline such as Geology, Hydrogeology, Geotechnical Engineering, or Construction Management. Equivalent technical experience in temporary pumping, dewatering, water/wastewater, fluid systems or heavy construction may be considered
- Three to five years of relevant experience in pumping systems, water/wastewater, dewatering, rental, estimating, construction engineering or related fluid-handling applications preferred
- Working knowledge of pump curves, piping systems, valves, and temporary fluid handling equipment preferred
- Pump selection and hydraulic modeling software preferred; AutoCAD a plus
- Familiarity with advanced automation controls and pump related telemetry such as PLC’s, IPC’s preferred
- Ability to read schematics, blueprints, and/or technical manuals preferred
- Work experience in the construction industry preferred

- Excellent written, verbal, planning, organizational, and communication skills
- Proficient using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint,
- Ability to solve problems and make recommendations using technical data
- Strongly self-motivated, ability to perform tasks with little or no direction
- Knowledge of budget cost estimating and bidding procedures preferred
- Knowledge of construction contracts and procedures preferred
- The ability to deliver technically complete engineering reviews within established bid and project deadlines
- Assist with technical presentations for engineering and construction clients
- Support field personnel, sales, operations and project managers for the life cycle of a project
- Provide technical training and mentorship to sales personnel, estimators, and project managers on pumping applications
- Ability to travel (locally, and nationally occasionally)
- Requires intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, stooping, climbing, lifting material or equipment.
- Delivers technically sound, cost-effective solutions by accurately evaluating project requirements, performing hydraulic and fluid calculations, selecting appropriate equipment, and identifying design risks before bid submission.
- Produces complete, accurate engineering deliverables including technical quotations, scope letters, calculations, submittals, drawings, and project documentation that meet customer requirements and established deadlines.
- Successfully supports projects from bid through execution by partnering effectively with Sales, Operations, Project Management, and field teams, including commissioning, performance verification, troubleshooting, and resolution of technical issues.
- Anticipates and mitigates project risk by identifying constructability, safety, hydraulic, chemical compatibility, and operational concerns early and recommending practical solutions that improve project outcomes.
- Strengthens the organization’s technical capabilities by sharing knowledge, mentoring Sales and project teams, conducting post-project reviews, and using lessons learned to improve future pumping and dewatering solutions.
