Opto-Mechanical Design Engineer
Indexed description
Company Description K2 Photonics builds femtosecond laser platforms that deliver a precise time axis with no moving parts and no locking electronics. This brings lab-grade time-resolved measurement, semiconductor inspection, gas sensing, and precision timing, out of the laboratory and into production facilities.
Role Description You will own the mechanical design of our laser platforms and take them from working prototype to a product a technician can build, and a customer can rely on for years.
Responsibilities
- Convert breadboard and prototype assemblies into manufacturable, repeatable designs.
- Define tolerances for optical alignment and analyze thermal and mechanical influence on optical stability.
- Release 2D production drawings with clearly defined inspection and QC criteria.
- Structure and maintain BOMs in ERP & PDM, with part numbering and revision control.
- Select and qualify suppliers, prepare RFQ packages and run first-article inspection.
- Perform mechanical and thermal simulation of baseplates, mounts and optomechanics.
- Design enclosures meeting laser safety, EMC and IP requirements.
Qualifications
- Proven proficiency with 3D CAD software and PDM (SolidWorks preferred).
- More than 5 years of experience in mechanical design of precision hardware.
- Demonstrated experience releasing production drawings.
- Direct experience working with machining suppliers.
- Ability to translate high-level system requirements into mechanical design.
