Electrical Controls Engineer
Custom Machinery & Automation | Hands-On Engineering
Our client is seeking an Electrical Controls Engineer to design, program, and support electrical control systems for custom machinery and industrial automation equipment. This role offers hands-on involvement throughout the project lifecycle, from electrical design and PLC programming through testing, troubleshooting, and implementation.

What You’ll Do
- Design electrical control systems for custom machinery and automated equipment
- Program, modify, and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, CNC systems, and related controls
- Create electrical schematics, control panel layouts, BOMs, and design documentation
- Review project specifications and develop practical controls solutions
- Select and integrate electrical and automation components
- Support machine testing, debugging, validation, startup, and commissioning
- Troubleshoot controls issues and perform root cause analysis
- Collaborate with mechanical, project, manufacturing, and other engineering teams
- Ensure designs meet performance, schedule, quality, and cost requirements
- Identify opportunities to improve controls standards, machine performance, and engineering processes
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline
- Experience designing electrical controls for industrial machinery or automated equipment
- Hands-on experience programming and troubleshooting PLCs and HMIs
- Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems, machine controls, and wiring methods
- Ability to create and interpret electrical schematics
- Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills
- Experience with electrical CAD/design software
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
Preferred Experience
- Custom machinery, automation, or machine-building experience
- Control panel design and integration
- CNC controls
- Machine startup and commissioning
- Motion control, drives, sensors, and industrial automation components
- Continuous improvement or lean manufacturing
- Experience supporting projects from concept through implementation
