Job DescriptionAs a Vehicle Systems Engineer, you will take end-to-end ownership of vehicle E/E features and ensure successful development through requirements, architecture, testing, and supplier coordination. This position bridges deep technical expertise with cross-functional collaboration, ensuring that complex vehicle systems are translated into robust, validated, and production-ready features.
- Manage development of assigned features from concept to production, including requirement engineering, feature specification, and change management
- Develop functional and logical architectures, create interface definitions and signal lists, and ensure feature integration into the overall vehicle system
- Define and execute design validation plans, create test cases, and support SiL, HiL/vehicle-level validation activities
- Take component-level responsibility for selected systems and manage stakeholders to ensure correct hardware and software delivery
- Support development of complete vehicle E/E architectures and network design based on function partitioning
- Work closely with Powertrain, Chassis, ADAS/AD, Body, Infotainment and Safety teams
- Participate in integration tests in different locations around the world
- Stay aligned with the latest industry practices and collaborate with AVL Global experts on future technologies and trends.
- BSc/MSc/PhD or equivalent engineering degree in electric/electronic, controls, mechatronics, automotive, mechanical engineering or related technical field
- Minimum 2 years of professional experience in R&D or product development projects
- Strong understanding of Systems Engineering, Vehicle Electrical/Electronic systems (E/E), vehicle controls and automotive systems development lifecycle
- Experience in one or more of the following areas: Feature specification, requirement engineering, logical function architecture development and modelling, E/E Architecture types (Domain, Zonal etc), E/E systems integration and test, design and validation process (DVP)
- Familiarity with component engineering processes for automotive ECUs
- Familiarity with FMA process and automotive quality standards
- Knowledge of Functional Safety (ISO 26262) and safety-oriented development processes
- Hands-on experience in one or more of the following tools: ALM tools (Codebeamer, Polarion), SysML/MBSE tools (e.g. PTC Modeler, Cameo), Vector Tools (CANAlyzer, CANoe, PreeVision etc), Matlab/Simulink
- Programming experience (Python, C++, etc) would be a plus
- Fluency in spoken and written English (German language skills would be a plus)
