Job Title: Mechanical Piping Engineer

Location: Sabine Pass, TX

Schedule: M-F, (10-30hrs of OT/week)

Duration: 1-year W2 contract

Per diem is available.


Position Summary

The Senior Mechanical / Piping Engineer serves as the technical subject matter expert for piping systems, providing leadership and support throughout design, construction, commissioning, startup, operational support, and brownfield modification projects. This position provides project-wide oversight for piping engineering activities, including stress analysis, pressure boundary integrity, pipe support systems, and contractor management, while ensuring compliance with applicable codes, specifications, regulations, and industry standards.


Key Qualifications Summary

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in piping engineering on large industrial projects.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior or lead engineering capacity.
  • Advanced expertise in piping stress analysis using CAESAR II.
  • Experience in LNG, refining, petrochemical, gas processing, or power generation facilities.
  • Strong background in field engineering, construction support, commissioning, and startup activities.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to influence stakeholders without direct reporting authority.


Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Act as the technical authority and subject matter expert for piping systems and stress analysis.
  • Lead complex engineering evaluations, reviews, and technical decision-making processes.


Engineering Oversight

  • Review contractor engineering deliverables, piping layouts, specifications, support designs, and stress analysis calculations.
  • Verify compliance with project specifications, engineering codes, and equipment allowable load requirements.


Construction and Field Engineering

  • Support fabrication, installation, testing, system turnover, commissioning, and startup activities.
  • Assess field modifications and provide engineering recommendations and technical guidance.


Quality and Integrity

  • Support the resolution of non-conformance reports (NCRs), specification deviations, fitness-for-service assessments, and pressure boundary integrity concerns.


Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with applicable ASME, API, NFPA, and other regulatory and industry requirements.


Qualifications and Experience

  • 15+ years of relevant piping engineering experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of piping materials, supports, valves, flanges, gaskets, and specialty items.
  • Advanced proficiency in piping stress analysis using CAESAR II or similar software.
  • Experience supporting large EPC projects through construction, commissioning, and startup phases.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.


Knowledge of Codes and Standards

  • ASME B31.1
  • ASME B31.3
  • ASME PCC-1
  • ASME PCC-2
  • ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC)
  • Applicable API, ANSI, ASTM, and NEMA standards
  • FERC, PHMSA, NFPA requirements and other applicable industry regulations
