By joining our Division of Structural Design as an Engineer-In-Training I in Franklin County, you’ll have the opportunity to learn how to design highway structures in accordance with KY Transportation Cabinet requirements as well as in accordance with the AASHTO LRFD (Load and Resistance Factor Design) Bridge Design Specifications.
Summary Of Responsibilities
- Design bridges, culverts, and retaining walls
- Detail structures in accordance with design
- Check designs of other Engineers
- Structural Analysis and computer modeling
- Detailing structures using MicroStation
- Design Structures using AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with an accredited bachelor's degree in engineering.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: NONE

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Certification as an Engineer-In-Training recognized by the Kentucky Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possess and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.
Working Conditions
Incumbents working in this job title will perform duties in an office setting as well as in a field setting.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
