Electrical Design Engineer

On-Site | Full-Time


About the Opportunity

Our client is a well-established manufacturer of custom electrical power distribution solutions serving OEM and industrial markets. They are seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to lead the design and development of custom low-voltage switchgear and related power distribution equipment. This position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys designing practical, manufacturable solutions while working closely with project teams from concept through production.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design custom low-voltage switchgear, switchboards, and power distribution systems to meet customer and project requirements.
  • Produce electrical engineering documentation including one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and assembly drawings.
  • Develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), engineering drawings, and production documentation for manufacturing.
  • Ensure all designs comply with applicable industry standards, customer specifications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Select appropriate electrical components and create cost-effective, production-ready designs.
  • Partner with internal teams including Sales, Project Management, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Quality throughout each project.
  • Provide engineering support during fabrication, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Manage engineering revisions and maintain accurate documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, product enhancements, and design optimization efforts.
  • Stay informed on evolving technologies, codes, and best practices within the power distribution industry.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent industry experience.
  • 5+ years of experience designing low-voltage switchgear, switchboards, control panels, or industrial power distribution equipment.
  • Strong understanding of electrical power distribution systems and three-phase electrical design.
  • Experience converting customer specifications into complete manufacturing and engineering packages.
  • Working knowledge of UL, NEC, ANSI, IEEE, and NEMA standards.
  • Experience creating electrical schematics, panel layouts, BOMs, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Proficiency with electrical CAD software such as AutoCAD Electrical, AutoCAD, EPLAN, SolidWorks Electrical, or similar platforms.
  • Experience designing custom-engineered products in a manufacturing or OEM environment.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems used in manufacturing environments is preferred.
  • Knowledge of busbar design, protective device coordination, short-circuit ratings, and arc flash considerations is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
