The candidate should be experienced in aviation fuel farms and hydrant networks, engine run-up facilities, MRO workshops, compressed air and oil systems, and specialist process utilities, with the ability to support projects across the full lifecycle, from concept and detailed design through procurement, construction, commissioning and handover.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and review the design and delivery of aviation fuel storage, transfer, filtration, pumping, recirculation and distribution systems, including fuel farms, hydrant networks and engine run-up fuel-feed systems.
  • Review hydraulic calculations, pressure-loss studies, pipe sizing, pump and valve selection, network balancing and transient/surge assessments.
  • Coordinate fuel-system requirements including filtration, pressure regulation, emergency shutdown, leak detection, overfill protection, drainage, spill containment, bonding and earthing.
  • Ensure fuel quality, contamination control, operability and maintainability requirements are incorporated into P&IDs, equipment specifications, layouts, commissioning and handover documentation.
  • Lead process-mechanical coordination for MRO facilities, aircraft hangars, engine shops, landing-gear shops, component workshops and GSE facilities.
  • Define and coordinate process utility demands, equipment connections, distribution routes, zoning and equipment-room requirements with OEMs, vendors and facility operators.
  • Review ventilation, exhaust, make-up air and hazardous-process interfaces for fuel, oil, battery/chemical, welding, cleaning and paint-adjacent areas.
  • Coordinate requirements for compressed air, instrument air, lubrication oil, waste oil, nitrogen, process water, equipment cooling and other specialist workshop utilities.
  • Design/review compressed-air systems including compressors, receivers, dryers, filters, condensate management, ring mains, pressure control, hose reels and point-of-use treatment.
  • Review air-demand calculations, diversity, pressure drops, compressor capacity, redundancy, storage sizing and energy-efficiency requirements.
  • Review oil storage and distribution systems including tanks, pumps, pipework, hose reels, collection points, bunding, leak monitoring and disposal interfaces.
  • Ensure appropriate equipment access, maintenance clearances, lifting/replacement routes, drainage, containment and safe operational interfaces are incorporated into the design.
  • Apply relevant NFPA 409 and NFPA 407 requirements to aircraft hangars, maintenance activities and aircraft fuel-servicing arrangements.
  • Coordinate hazardous-area classification and equipment suitability for fuel, engine-test and paint-adjacent areas.
  • Support multidisciplinary design coordination, technical reviews, procurement, construction, testing, commissioning and project handover.
  • Prepare and review design criteria, specifications, calculations, P&IDs, technical documentation and project deliverables.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from a recognized university; professional registration/chartered status is an advantage.
  • 7–12 years of relevant engineering experience, including at least 4 years in industrial process-mechanical systems.
  • Experience in aviation MRO, airport fuel infrastructure, petrochemical or heavy-manufacturing environments is preferred.
  • Previous Middle East and operational airport/brownfield project experience is advantageous.
  • Strong working knowledge of ASME B31.3, API standards, NFPA 30, NFPA 407 NFPA 409, IATA and ICAO ETC
  • Familiarity with Energy Institute (EI) and Joint Inspection Group (JIG) aviation-fuelling standards and fuel-quality practices.
