Manpower is currently looking for an Apprentice Hardware (Electronics) Engineer to work with well-established company renowned in the electrical testing and measurement industry. The position is based at Dover (Kent). This is a temporary role for 36 months.


Core purpose:

To develop the knowledge and practical skills of an entry-level apprentice while supporting the Product Development team in taking Megger products from concept through development, verification and into production.


Role summary:

An entry-level apprenticeship role for someone with an interest in electronics and

engineering. The apprentice will combine formal apprenticeship training with practical

experience, working alongside experienced engineers across the product development

lifecycle.


Primary objectives:


  • Develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for a career in Hardware / Electronics Engineering.
  • Support the Product Development team with practical engineering activities as skills develop.
  • Gain experience of the complete product lifecycle from concept and requirements through design, prototype, test, verification and transition into production.
  • Successfully complete the relevant apprenticeship training and apply learning in the workplace.


Apprenticeship & Development


  • Undertake the agreed apprenticeship programme and complete required learning and assessments.
  • Build knowledge of electronics, engineering principles, product development and safe working practices.
  • Apply learning to practical activities within the Product Development team.


Product Development Support


  • Support experienced engineers with product development activities.
  • Assist with prototype builds, component investigations, engineering documentation and practical investigations.
  • Develop an understanding of how electronics, software, mechanical and systems engineering work together


Hardware Testing & Problem Solving


  • Learn to use laboratory equipment such as multimeters and oscilloscopes.
  • Support testing and verification of prototypes and products.
  • Assist with fault finding, investigation of unexpected results and root-cause analysis.


Design for Production


  • Gain exposure to schematic and PCB development, components, design for manufacture, engineering change and configuration control.
  • Support the transition of products from development into production and assist with production-related engineering investigations.
  • Follow Megger engineering, quality and safe systems of work.


Experience, Skills & Knowledge


Technical Skills


Essential:

  • GCSEs or equivalent in Mathematics and English.
  • Science desirable.
  • Genuine interest in electronics, engineering, science or technology.
  • Willingness and ability to undertake an engineering apprenticeship.


Desirable:

  • A-Level, T-Level, BTEC or equivalent in Engineering, Electronics, Physics, Mathematics or Computer Science.
  • Personal electronics, robotics or STEM projects.
  • Basic soldering, programming or experience with Arduino/Raspberry Pi or similar.


Soft Skills


  • Curious and willing to learn.
  • Practical and enjoys understanding how things work.
  • Analytical and interested in solving problems.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Able to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Comfortable asking questions and learning from experienced engineers.
  • Reliable, organised and takes responsibility for own development.
  • Positive attitude and commitment to completing the apprenticeship.
