Senior Roadway Design Engineer

About the Opportunity

We are representing an established engineering consultancy in the search for a Senior Roadway Design Engineer to join its transportation team in Columbus, Ohio.

This is an opportunity for an experienced roadway engineer to take a leading role in the design and delivery of transportation infrastructure projects, with a particular focus on ODOT and City of Columbus roadway projects.

The ideal candidate will bring strong roadway design experience, a Professional Engineer (PE) license, and proficiency with OpenRoads Designer. Experience with roundabout design, storm sewer/drainage and mentoring junior engineers would be highly valued.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and support the design and delivery of roadway and transportation infrastructure projects.
• Develop roadway plans, alignments, profiles, grading and associated design elements.
• Apply ODOT design standards, specifications and requirements throughout project delivery.
• Utilize OpenRoads Designer for roadway design and plan development.
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, surveyors and other technical disciplines.
• Support roadway projects through design development, review and construction documentation.
• Perform technical reviews and ensure designs meet applicable standards and quality requirements.
• Contribute to storm sewer, drainage and related roadway infrastructure design.
• Support the design of intersections and roundabout projects where applicable.
• Communicate with clients, agencies and project stakeholders as required.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
• Assist with project schedules, budgets and coordination as needed.

Ideal Background

• 8–12+ years of roadway/transportation engineering experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• Demonstrated ODOT roadway design experience required.
• Strong experience with OpenRoads Designer required.
• Experience with City of Columbus roadway projects preferred.
• Roundabout design experience highly desirable.
• Experience with roadway storm sewer and drainage design a plus.
• AutoCAD Civil 3D experience a plus.
• Previous experience mentoring junior engineers or designers preferred.
• Strong understanding of roadway design standards, plans and specifications.
• Excellent communication and coordination skills.
