Site/Civil Design Engineer

- Utilize Civil 3D to design comprehensive site layouts, grading plans, and utility systems for residential, commercial, and industrial developments.
- Review municipal zoning ordinances, land development regulations, and agency requirements; perform utility service research and site visits to establish design parameters and project feasibility.
- Create detailed concept drawings based on client objectives and due diligence findings, and coordinate with CAD technicians to produce accurate design documentation.
- Oversee the design and analysis of stormwater systems using Civil 3D and hydrology software, perform pipe sizing, drainage area mapping, and hydraulic grade line evaluations in compliance with applicable standards.
- Develop grading plans that ensure efficient earthwork balancing, site safety, and compliance with engineering best practices and design slope requirements.
- Plan and design stormwater, sanitary sewer, water, gas, and communication utility systems, including pump stations, and identify and resolve vertical and horizontal utility conflicts.
- Design erosion control measures, perform stability calculations, and establish construction sequencing using best management practices to maintain environmental compliance.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for site improvements to support bonding requirements and client budgeting.
- Take an active role in mentoring junior engineers, reviewing design work, and ensuring adherence to quality standards.
- Coordinate design activities and meetings between staff, subcontractors, and clients.
- Ability to plan, schedule work, and complete work assignments within established budgets and timelines.
- Develop specifications, cost estimates, and final bid packages.
- Perform design and production plan for various projects from preliminary to final design.
- Support corporate and departmental goals through effective project planning, scheduling, and budgeting.
- Build and maintain relationships with clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Assist in preparing proposals and cost estimates for new business.
- Contribute technical input to marketing efforts and presentations.
- Coordinate design services for design-bid-build and design-build projects.
- Ensure quality control and adherence to project requirements
- Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, and related software for design projection.
- Apply hydrology/hydraulics modeling tools.
Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC). The process and inspections used to ensure that all work meets established standards, specifications, and client requirements through the prevention, detection, and correction of errors.
- Check all technical work for accuracy and compliance with design standards.
- Review and verify design computations and plans.
- Participate in internal and external project reviews.
- Support and mentor engineers in design fundamentals and professional growth.
- Promote teamwork, integrity, and collaboration across departments.
- Mentor junior engineers.
- Attend technical and professional development training annually.
- Maintain Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Pursue certifications relevant to civil design and project management.
- Assumes responsibilities for special assignments delegated by senior leadership or project management.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university.
- 4+ years of related land development (civil/site) experience is required.
- Professional Engineers License or working towards licensure.
- Experience in Civil 3D with the ability to design site layouts concept through completion.
- This job is essentially a sedentary role; however, standing, walking, sitting, reaching with hands and arms, stooping or kneeling, talking, and hearing are required.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- This job operates in a professional office environment.
- Overtime may be necessary as workloads dictate. This may include weekdays, weekends, and/or holidays.
- Due to the collaborative nature of this position and accessibility for in-house and on-site client meetings, it is essential that the work be performed in the office and during regular business hours.
- Some travel may be required. The employee may occasionally be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, high places, fumes, or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, and the risk of electrical shock.
