About the Role

BioVeritas is seeking a VP of Engineering to lead capital project execution and provide engineering oversight across our biofuels operations. This role owns the full lifecycle of capital projects — from scoping and design through construction, commissioning, and operational handoffs while partnering closely with Operations to ensure engineering decisions translate into safe, reliable, and cost-effective plant performance. The VP of Engineering will be a key leader supporting BioVeritas’ strategic priorities, including major capital investment decisions, facility validation, and certification milestones.

Key Responsibilities

● Lead capital project management across the full project lifecycle: scoping, budgeting, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and start-up

● Develop and manage capital project budgets, schedules, and risk registers; report progress and variances to executive leadership

● Partner with Operations leadership to ensure engineering designs support reliable, safe, and efficient plant operations

● Oversee engineering standards, specifications, and documentation (P&IDs, PFDs, equipment specs) across capital projects

● Manage relationships with EPC contractors, equipment vendors, and third-party engineering firms

● Lead evaluation, selection, and negotiation of process technology licenses and licensors (e.g., fermentation, conversion, or other core process technologies) to support capital project execution

● Support facility validation, regulatory, and certification milestones (e.g., pilot plant validation, ASTM certification) through engineering deliverables

● Lead front-end engineering design (FEED) studies and feasibility assessments for new capital projects and facility expansions

● Build and lead an engineering team as the organization scales, including hiring, mentoring, and performance management

● Ensure capital projects comply with applicable safety, environmental, and process safety management (PSM) standards

● Present capital project business cases, timelines, and risk assessments to executive leadership and, as needed, the Board of Directors

Qualifications & Requirements

Required

● Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, or related discipline); Masters Preferred; PE license a plus

● 15+ years of progressive engineering experience, including significant capital project management responsibility

● Demonstrated experience managing capital projects from FEED through commissioning in an industrial/process environment

● Hands-on operations experience — has worked closely with or within plant operations, not purely a design-office background

● Experience in bioprocessing, agricultural processing, and wood products processing

● Strong track record managing EPC contractors, vendors, and multi-disciplinary project teams

● Experience managing capital budgets and presenting project business cases to executive leadership

Preferred

● Experience in biofuels, renewable fuels, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), or biochemical/bioprocessing operations

● Experience with facility validation and industry certification processes (e.g., ASTM, ISCC)

● Experience in a startup or high-growth industrial environment

● Master's degree in Engineering or an MBA

● Position is located in Bryan, Texas primarily on site with hybrid flexibility

Desired Skills & Competencies

● Strategic project planning and capital budgeting

● Cross-functional leadership — able to align Engineering, Operations, R&D, and executive stakeholders

● Strong written and verbal communication, including executive-level presentations

● Vendor and contractor management and negotiation

● Technology licensing evaluation and negotiation

● Risk assessment and mitigation planning

● Comfortable operating in an ambiguous, fast-scaling startup environment

Physical Requirements

● Ability to visit plant/construction sites, including walking uneven terrain, climbing stairs/ladders, and wearing required PPE

● Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods

● Occasional travel to vendor sites, construction sites, or other company facilities will be required
