Roles of interest
Primary Systems Engineer
- Develop substation primary systems designs, including plant layouts, equipment arrangements, clearances, cable routes, earthing interfaces, constructability and maintainability.
- We are interested in engineers at all levels, from those developing their primary design capability through to senior and principal engineers who can set technical direction, mentor others and improve standards, templates and design practices.
Secondary Design Engineer
- Develop coordinated secondary systems designs covering control circuits, interlocking, DC systems, AC auxiliary supplies, metering, protection and SCADA interfaces, panel wiring, schematics, cable schedules and termination details.
- This role does not perform protection settings or SCADA configuration, but is central to translating functional and interface requirements into safe, coordinated and buildable designs.
- Experience with IEC 61850, digital substation architecture and modern secondary systems technologies will be highly regarded.
Civil Engineer
- Support civil design for substations and network infrastructure, including site layouts, earthworks, drainage, access roads, foundations, trenches, pits, bunding, oil containment and supporting infrastructure.
- We are seeking engineers across all experience levels, including senior and principal practitioners who can lead complex design packages, improve constructability and influence whole-of-life outcomes.
Structural Engineer
- Provide structural engineering input for substation and network assets, including equipment support structures, gantries, buildings, footings, poles, towers and other high-voltage infrastructure.
- The role requires strong coordination across electrical, civil, geotechnical and delivery requirements, with opportunities for senior and principal engineers to influence assurance, resilience, standardization and design methodologies.
Drafting Lead — Mechanical / Primary Systems
- Lead drafting, modelling and design documentation for mechanical and primary systems, ensuring drawings, models and layouts are accurate, coordinated and suitable for construction.
- The role will support substation layouts, equipment arrangements, plans, sections, details and standardized design outputs, while guiding CAD and BIM practices, drawing governance, quality and multidisciplinary coordination.
- This role will be a key contributor to Cyient’s digital engineering uplift and the transition toward model-based design delivery.
Mains Engineer — Transmission
- Support the design and technical development of overhead and underground mains assets, with a focus on sub-transmission and transmission-level infrastructure at 33 kV and above.
- Relevant experience may include route assessment, conductor and cable selection, thermal ratings, clearances, earthing interfaces, structures, constructability, asset standards and coordination with planning, environment, property, delivery and customer connection requirements.
- Experience with overhead line design, underground cable systems, transmission modelling or cable rating tools will be highly regarded.
Generalist Substation / Network Engineering Role
We are also interested in experienced engineers and technical specialists who can work across teams and bridge the gap between design, construction, commissioning, maintenance and operations.
This may suit people with experience in substation construction, commissioning, field engineering, maintenance, project engineering, design management or multidisciplinary delivery.
These roles will bring practical judgement into design development, improve constructability, resolve interfaces, support brownfield staging, mentor teams and help ensure engineering outputs translate into safe, efficient and reliable field outcomes.

- Qualifications in electrical, civil, structural or another relevant engineering discipline.
- Drafting, design technology or digital engineering qualifications.
- Experience in substations, transmission, distribution or complex infrastructure.
- Strong multidisciplinary coordination and interface management skills.
- Experience in greenfield and brownfield environments.
- Knowledge of relevant standards, utility practices and engineering assurance.
- Experience working with customers, contractors, consultants and delivery partners.
- Practical understanding of construction, commissioning, operation or maintenance.
- Strong technical judgement and problem-solving capability.
- A commitment to safety, quality, customer outcomes and technical excellence.
- Experience in electricity networks, renewable energy, major infrastructure, rail, resources or other asset-intensive sectors will be highly regarded.
