Design Engineer II

Location: Naperville, IL

Employment Type: Full-Time

Work Arrangement: Hybrid

Due to ITAR Restrictions, candidates must be US Citizens

Position Overview

The Design Engineer II will support the design, development, testing, and improvement of electronic hardware for high-reliability applications. This role is hands-on and will work closely with engineering, PCB layout, manufacturing, test, and other cross-functional teams to take designs from concept through prototype, validation, and production.

The ideal candidate has experience with circuit design, electronic hardware development, troubleshooting, and laboratory testing, with the ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop analog, digital, and/or mixed-signal electronic circuits.
  • Create and review schematics, component selections, and engineering documentation.
  • Support PCB development and work closely with PCB layout engineers.
  • Build, test, troubleshoot, and debug prototype and production electronic assemblies.
  • Perform circuit analysis, design verification, and validation testing.
  • Use laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, spectrum analyzers, and other electronic test equipment.
  • Identify root causes of hardware issues and implement effective design solutions.
  • Support design reviews, prototype builds, qualification testing, and product releases.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and engineering teams to improve product performance, reliability, manufacturability, and testability.
  • Assist with engineering changes, BOM updates, technical documentation, and production support.
  • Participate in customer and internal technical discussions as needed.
  • Maintain awareness of applicable industry standards and design practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
  • Approximately 3+ years of experience in electronic hardware or circuit design.
  • Hands-on experience designing and troubleshooting electronic circuits.
  • Experience with analog, digital, or mixed-signal circuit design.
  • Experience working with schematics, PCB development, and electronic components.
  • Proficiency using standard electronic laboratory test equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with engineering and cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with RF/high-frequency circuit design.
  • Experience with power supplies, ADC/DACs, sensors, microcontrollers, or embedded hardware.
  • Experience with high-speed digital design.
  • Experience with EMI/EMC considerations and testing.
  • Experience with PCB design tools such as Altium, Cadence, OrCAD, or similar.
  • Experience with aerospace, defense, medical, industrial, or other high-reliability electronics.
  • Familiarity with Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT).
  • Familiarity with IPC or other relevant electronics manufacturing standards.

What We're Looking For

The strongest candidates will be hands-on electrical/electronics engineers who have actually designed, built, tested, and debugged hardware. Candidates whose experience is primarily PCB layout, software, systems engineering, or theoretical electrical engineering without significant circuit-design experience may not be the best fit.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive salary based on experience
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid vacation and holidays
  • Sick leave
  • Life and disability insurance
  • Additional voluntary benefit options
  • Professional development opportunities
