The responsibility of the Mechanical Design Engineer is to plan, design, and support product applications for North American Sale Team while applying a production engineering mindset focused on quality, efficiency, standardization, cost control, and reliable execution.
In addition, the position is responsible for organizing complex engineering activities related to the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of standardized and configurable engineering solutions within the scope of our product capabilities.
This role supports applications within the food and pharmaceutical manufacturing process while balancing customer-specific requirements with proven design concepts, manufacturability, repeatability, and delivery performance.
The position will work closely with inside sales, assembly, service, order fulfillment, local suppliers, and core technology teams in Japan to review and approve projects, support local integration, and ensure accurate engineering documentation.
The Design Engineer will manage in-house order integration, support production release activities, maintain accurate BOMs and drawings, and contribute to local assembly and final testing processes.
This role requires strong organization, practical system design capability, experience within food or pharmaceutical packaging or processing equipment a plus.
It also requires a commitment to design reuse, configurable standards, reduced rework, accurate documentation, cost-conscious component selection, and professional customer and internal support.

Essential Functions
- Apply a production engineering mindset focused on manufacturability, repeatability, quality, cost control, and reliable execution
- Develop and apply standardized design platforms, configurable product options, and reusable engineering solutions whenever possible
- Balance customer-specific requirements with standard product platforms to support shorter lead times, improved margins, and scalable execution
- Serve as a technical liaison to obtain and deploy the engineering information for the US business from Japan

- Participate in manufacture of products and process optimization as needed
- Interfaces with customers
- Performs engineering assignments with clear and specified objectives and involves conventional types of plans and specifications.
- Performs design calculations and prepares equipment or material specifications
- Implements design procedures and specifications leading to providing appropriate project documentation
- Designs equipment and assemblies with manufacturability, serviceability, assembly efficiency, cost control, compliance, and maintenance accessibility in mind
- Ability to perform designs using relevant design software. Assignments require the investigation of a limited number of variables, supervisory assistance provided when needed
- If requested may need to work with inside sales to understand a customer requirement and offer a solution with estimated costs and lead times
- Manages assigned orders that require integration of our core technology with local solutions
- Performs hands-on light assembly and integration work when needed
- Follow standard file management process to allow for professional after-sales support of designed solutions
- Maintains accurate drawings, BOMs, spare parts lists, material specifications, and project documentation in designated file structures
- Issues timely change notifications and updates drawings, BOMs, and related documentation as needed to support production, assembly, service, and order fulfillment
- Collaborates closely with assembly, service, sales, suppliers, and order fulfillment teams to reduce rework, improve delivery performance, and support customer satisfaction
- Develop relationships with local vendors as needed
- Design solutions include conveyors, emission covers, rejection systems, and other material handling solutions for the Food and Packaging industry
- Supports engineering project timelines by releasing order specific drawings and production documentation within established departmental targets
- Supports departmental goals for improved on-time delivery, increased design reuse, accurate BOMs and drawings, and consistent use of preferred suppliers and standard components
Education and Experience Requested
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering preferred, or equivalent experience
- Four (4) years minimum experience in a design and production environment
- Experience in production engineering, design standardization, manufacturing support, or configurable product design strongly preferred
- Experience with design for manufacturability, design for assembly, BOM accuracy, supplier coordination, and cost-conscious component selection
- Demonstrated success balancing customer-specific requirements with standardized design platforms and repeatable engineering solutions
- Proven track record in system design, preferably with direct experience with UL, CE, OSHA, USDA, 3A, and sanitary design
- Experience in risk analysis and maintaining safety documents
- Experience with bill of materials (BOM) generation and spare parts/service documentation
- Proven ability to create accurate engineering documentation, maintain controlled file structures, and support timely production release processes
Skills Requested
- Proficient in AutoCAD (2D/3D), SolidWorks - highly preferred
- Microsoft Applications (MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
- SAP Business One a plus
- Strong understanding of standardized design practices, component reuse, documentation control, and engineering release processes
- Ability to make practical design decisions based on cost, lead time, manufacturability, safety, compliance, and customer requirements
- Strong cross-functional communication skills with sales, assembly, service, suppliers, order fulfillment, and internal stakeholders
- Ability to support on-time engineering deliverables, including approval drawings, production releases, and project completion within allocated timelines
- Excellent organizational skills
- Positive attitude and approach to the job responsibilities and the Anritsu team

Target compensation: The total compensation package will align with experience and includes base salary, bonus, 401(k) match, generous benefits, and more. The base salary starts at $90,000.
