About the Role
An established MEP engineering consulting firm in the Washington, DC Metro Area is seeking a motivated Mechanical Design Engineer with 4–13 years of HVAC design experience.
The position offers the opportunity to work across a diverse portfolio of commercial, multifamily residential, and institutional projects while continuing to develop technically and progressing toward greater project management and leadership responsibility.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively across MEP disciplines and contribute to projects through design, coordination, site investigation, and construction administration.
Key Responsibilities
- Design HVAC systems for commercial, multifamily residential, and institutional buildings
- Perform HVAC load calculations, equipment sizing, and equipment selection
- Develop mechanical system layouts and control systems
- Perform site surveys and field investigations
- Coordinate designs across mechanical, electrical, and plumbing disciplines
- Apply relevant building codes across Washington, DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia jurisdictions
- Develop and coordinate project documentation using Revit and AutoCAD
- Communicate and coordinate with clients and internal project teams
- Manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables as experience allows
- Delegate work and provide technical guidance to junior engineers
- Participate in site visits and construction-phase activities
Qualifications
- 4–13 years of HVAC / mechanical building systems design experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- Strong knowledge of HVAC design for the built environment
- Experience with HVAC load calculations, equipment sizing, and selection
- Knowledge of applicable building and mechanical codes
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office
- Revit experience strongly preferred
- Active PE license strongly preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
- Previous experience coordinating projects, managing schedules/budgets, delegating work, or mentoring engineers is beneficial
- Ability to travel to project sites and conduct site surveys
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship
