Role Description The Professional Engineer – Mechanical Design is a full-time, hybrid role based in Rockford, IL, with flexibility for some work from home. This role is responsible for designing mechanical systems for building projects, including HVAC, ventilation, and related mechanical components, from concept through construction documents. Daily activities include performing mechanical load calculations, developing system layouts, preparing plans and specifications, and coordinating designs with electrical, plumbing, and fire protection disciplines. The engineer will review codes and standards, respond to RFIs, support submittal reviews, and provide technical guidance during construction. The role also involves collaborating with clients, architects, and contractors, attending project meetings, and contributing to quality control and continuous improvement of design processes.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Mechanical Engineering and Design Engineering for building systems.
- Hands-on experience with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools for creating and revising mechanical drawings.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical Engineering, or the ability to obtain one within a reasonable timeframe.
- Experience with MEP/FP design for commercial, hospitality, multifamily, or institutional projects is highly beneficial.
- Knowledge of relevant building codes, ASHRAE standards, and industry best practices.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a hybrid environment.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for coordinating with project teams and clients.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
