Mechanical Engineer II
Indexed description
Principal Duties And Responsibilities
- Design and develop pressure transducer and transmitter products, subassemblies, components, pressure ports, adapters, housings, sensing assemblies, fixtures, and related mechanical features to meet customer, internal, and quality system requirements.
- Generate, revise, and maintain controlled outline drawings, assembly drawings, component drawings, bills of material, manufacturing instructions, test documentation, and engineering reports using GP:50-approved software and document control systems.
- Review customer specifications, purchase order requirements, source drawings, qualification requirements, and internal standards to identify design, manufacturing, inspection, test, material, marking, cleanliness, and documentation requirements.
- Develop and review pressure transducer design details including wetted materials, pressure boundaries, proof and burst pressure considerations, stress and FEA analysis, weld geometry, mechanical interfaces, mounting features, seal interfaces, cleanliness requirements, and dimensional tolerances.
- Support design and manufacturing of stainless steel, Inconel, and other precision metal components, including machined parts, welded assemblies, hermetic assemblies, sensor adapters, pressure ports, and enclosure components. Work with Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Production, Supply Chain, and Customer Service to ensure mechanical design intent is correctly translated into manufacturable and inspectable product configurations.
- Support development, review, and execution of ATP, QTP, DTP, qualification, environmental, vibration, shock, proof pressure, burst pressure, leak, insulation resistance, calibration, and functional performance test documentation where mechanical design or test setup is involved.
- Design, specify, develop, and verify special tooling, assembly fixtures, inspection fixtures, pressure test adapters, vibration/shock mounting hardware, and production aids required to manufacture, inspect, or test GP:50 products.
- Provide engineering dispositions for nonconforming parts, assemblies, drawings, test results, and manufacturing issues using established GP:50 quality system processes.
- Lead or support root cause investigations, corrective actions, process improvements, and design changes related to pressure transducer performance, manufacturability, quality, yield, and customer requirements.
- Support new product introduction and production transfer by reviewing design readiness, manufacturing readiness, inspection approach, tooling needs, test requirements, and configuration control requirements.
- Prepare clear technical communications, engineering reports, customer-facing explanations, internal memoranda, and documentation packages that support design decisions, test results, compliance positions, and manufacturing requirements.
Experience: Typically, three to seven years of related mechanical design, product engineering, manufacturing engineering, aerospace/defense, instrumentation, precision manufacturing, or pressure transducer experience. Demonstrated experience with controlled engineering documentation, production support, and customer or specification-driven design activity is preferred.
