Senior Mechanical Engineer - Space Systems

iO Associates are currently partnered with an exciting European space technology company that is expanding its engineering team to support a growing portfolio of spacecraft and space infrastructure programmes.

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer who combines strong analytical capability with hands-on engineering expertise and can provide guidance and mentorship to more junior team members. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced space engineer looking to take ownership of challenging mechanical design activities within a highly innovative environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design activities for advanced space hardware and subsystems.
• Perform structural, thermal and mechanical analyses to support spacecraft development.
• Conduct FEA simulations and validate mechanical performance against mission requirements.
• Support design reviews, technical decision-making and engineering investigations.
• Work closely with systems, electronics, manufacturing and programme teams.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the development of engineering best practices.
• Support product development from concept through qualification and delivery.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Mechanical Engineer within the space sector.
• Strong background in: structural analysis, thermal analysis, finite Element Analysis (FEA), mechanical design
• Experience developing hardware for demanding environments.
• Ability to take ownership of projects and provide technical leadership when required.
• Strong communication skills and experience working within multidisciplinary teams.
• Previous mentoring or coaching experience would be advantageous.
• EU citizenship is required due to project restrictions.
