Distribution Engineer

Location: Florida


We are looking for an experienced Distribution Engineer to support the design and execution of electric utility distribution projects. This role will focus on overhead and underground distribution systems, system upgrades, customer projects, reliability improvements, and grid modernization initiatives.

The ideal candidate will have strong utility distribution design experience and be comfortable working with Construction, Field Operations, Planning, GIS, Permitting, and Project Management teams.


What You'll Do

  • Design overhead and underground electrical distribution systems from 4kV to 35kV.
  • Prepare construction packages, work orders, engineering drawings, and equipment specifications.
  • Design distribution feeders, service extensions, transformer installations, voltage conversions, and system improvements.
  • Perform engineering calculations including voltage drop, conductor sizing, equipment loading, and fault current analysis.
  • Review customer load requests and determine infrastructure requirements for residential, commercial, industrial, and renewable energy customers.
  • Coordinate with Construction, Field Operations, Planning, Permitting, GIS, and Project Management teams throughout project execution.
  • Conduct field visits to verify existing conditions and support construction activities.
  • Review contractor submittals, field changes, and as-built documentation.
  • Support storm restoration, reliability improvement, and grid modernization projects.
  • Ensure designs comply with NESC, NEC, IEEE, utility standards, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Support project commissioning, energization, and closeout activities.


What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Experience designing electric utility distribution systems.
  • Strong understanding of overhead and underground distribution design.
  • Knowledge of utility construction standards, electrical equipment, and power distribution principles.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GIS mapping, and utility design standards.
  • Experience with transmission and/or substation projects is a plus.
  • Utility, electric power, or investor-owned utility experience preferred.
  • PE license preferred, but not required.


Software Experience

Experience with any of the following is preferred:

  • AutoCAD
  • ArcGIS
  • ESRI Utility Network
  • Autodesk Utility Design (AUD)
