Description

A leading advanced technology research and development organization is seeking a Electrical Design Engineer – Cable & Harness to join its Mechanical Engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with experience in electrical interconnect, cable, and harness design who wants to work on highly technical prototype programs spanning aerospace, defense, optical systems, radar, and other advanced technologies.

The engineer will lead the design and development of system interconnects, cables, harnesses, and power distribution solutions while collaborating closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams. The role offers the opportunity to take designs from concept through fabrication, procurement, integration, and test.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead cable, harness, and electrical interconnect designs for prototype systems and programs
  • Develop system- and unit-level electrical interconnection and power distribution schemes
  • Create design concepts, block diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and cable/harness fabrication drawings
  • Utilize 2D and 3D CAD tools to develop and document designs
  • Perform basic engineering calculations and select appropriate components, connectors, and hardware
  • Support procurement, fabrication, assembly, and system-level integration
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, systems, and other engineering disciplines
  • Track and maintain program milestones and deliverables
  • Communicate technical information effectively across teams and organizational levels
  • Work independently with creativity, initiative, resourcefulness, and attention to detail

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering OR an associate degree/bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline plus 5+ years of relevant electrical interconnection design experience
  • Experience designing electrical interconnections, cables, harnesses, or power distribution systems
  • Experience developing schematics, wiring diagrams, and cable/harness fabrication drawings
  • Experience with 2D and/or 3D CAD software
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary engineering environment
  • Strong technical communication, organization, and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with electronic design for aerospace or defense applications
  • Knowledge of:
    • Connector selection
    • Wire types, sizing, and derating
    • Voltage-drop calculations
    • Electro-mechanical packaging
    • Electrical fabrication and assembly techniques
  • Familiarity with NASA, military, ASME, and/or IEEE standards and specifications
  • Experience with SolidWorks and/or Zuken E3
  • Experience with PDM and/or PLM systems
  • Experience designing for complex prototype or advanced technology programs
Security Clearance Requirements

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense Secret security clearance, with the ability and willingness to pursue Top Secret clearance and compartmented program eligibility in the future.

An interim clearance may be acceptable at the start of employment. Candidates must be willing to undergo the required background investigation.

U.S. Citizenship Is Required.
