Job Purpose
This role requires collaborating with cross-functional divisions to develop automotive body structures and
components in the Interior Trim Development department that meet or exceed customer expectations while
balancing vehicle performance, styling, marketability, manufacturing, profitability, and other design constraints &
considerations. Design responsibilities may include both structural and/or styled parts utilizing a variety of
materials (steel, plastics, composites, etc.) as well as manufacturing processes (stamping, injection molding, etc.).
Additional responsibilities may include researching & developing new technologies for future vehicle applications.
Key Accountabilities
Create and manage 3D models, layouts, and 2D engineering drawings using CATIA, ensuring compliance with Honda design standards and program requirements. (30%)
Collaborate and negotiate with internal Honda stakeholders, including design engineering teams, testing departments, styling studios, manufacturing plants, and purchasing groups to align product and business objectives. (30%)
Lead supplier part development activities by establishing design targets, monitoring progress, and confirming suppliers' ability to meet quality, timing, cost, and performance requirements. (20%)
Support component and vehicle verification testing, analyze results, and develop effective countermeasures to address issues and achieve performance targets. (10%)
Estimate, track, and manage part cost, weight, and tooling investment throughout the development cycle, including evaluation and review of supplier quotations. (10%)
Minimum Qualifications
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field, or equivalent experience.
- 0 to 2 years of relevant engineering experience.
- Proficiency with CATIA or other 3D CAD software.
- Strong mechanical design and engineering fundamentals.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and proactively.
- Highly organized with effective time management and multitasking skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external suppliers.
- Analytical problem-solving and decision-making skills.
▪ Decide if styling studio surface data can be developed into a feasible construction.
▪ Decide if proposals from part suppliers can meet necessary internal requirements.
Working Conditions
Majority of work is performed in an office environment. Some interaction in test lab, fabrication and
manufacturing environments. 5-10 hours/week OT as needed. Some domestic & limited international travel.
