Join a Well-Established MEP Consulting Engineering Firm Expanding Its Florida Team
We're conducting a confidential search on behalf of a respected MEP consulting engineering firm for a Lead Mechanical Designer to join their growing Florida office. This is a great opportunity for an experienced mechanical design professional ready to take on greater project ownership and help mentor a growing design team.
The Opportunity:
โ Lead Mechanical Designer: Own mechanical system design from concept through construction documents, guiding designers and coordinating across disciplines
โ Ideal for a candidate ready to combine strong technical design work with team leadership and client-facing responsibility
What You'll Be Doing:
โ Lead the design of HVAC systems, including load calculations, equipment selection, ductwork and piping layout, and system sequencing
โ Review and coordinate mechanical drawings and specifications for accuracy, code compliance, and constructability
โ Collaborate directly with architects, electrical and plumbing/fire protection designers, and clients throughout all phases of design
โ Mentor and review the work of Senior and Junior Mechanical Designers, ensuring quality and consistency across projects
โ Coordinate with local Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) on code compliance and permitting requirements
โ Support project scoping, fee proposals, and scheduling in coordination with Project Managers and Principals
What You Bring:
๐ท Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (or equivalent extensive design experience)
๐ท 7+ years of mechanical design experience within an MEP consulting engineering environment
๐ท Proven experience leading mechanical design on commercial, institutional, healthcare, or residential projects
๐ท Strong working knowledge of ASHRAE standards, Florida Building and Energy Codes, and relevant design software (Revit, AutoCAD, Trane Trace, or similar)
๐ท Demonstrated ability to mentor and lead junior design staff
๐ท Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with clients, architects, and multidisciplinary engineering teams
๐ท PE license a plus, but not required
