About Beltways

Beltways is building the world's fastest moving walkway.

Our proprietary transportation platform combines advanced mechanical engineering with intelligent software controls to create a next-generation passenger transportation system capable of operating up to 10x faster than traditional moving walkways. After successfully completing a public deployment and proving key performance benchmarks, we're entering an exciting phase of growth focused on commercialization, manufacturing scale-up, and future expansion.

We're looking for innovative engineers who are energized by solving complex problems and excited by the opportunity to help bring a first-of-its-kind technology to market.

About the Role

We're seeking a Mechanical Engineer III to play a critical role in commercializing Beltways' breakthrough transportation technology.

This individual will help lead the transition from prototype to scalable production, driving mechanical design, manufacturing strategy, supplier collaboration, testing, and continuous product improvement. You'll work closely with software teams, manufacturing partners, and company founders to ensure our technology is innovative, reliable, and built for scale.

This is an opportunity to join a rapidly growing startup at a pivotal stage and help build the foundation of a future hardware engineering organization.

What You'll Do

  • Own the full lifecycle of mechanical design, including concept development, CAD modeling, prototyping, testing, documentation, and production launch
  • Lead commercialization and cost reduction initiatives to improve manufacturability and production scalability
  • Design and develop mechanical systems, assemblies, and components using Siemens NX and related engineering tools
  • Create detailed 3D models, 2D drawings, specifications, BOMs, and manufacturing documentation
  • Apply GD&T principles and Design for Manufacturability (DFM) best practices throughout the product development process
  • Evaluate manufacturing methods including CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, castings, extrusions, and other production processes
  • Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing partners on design reviews, DFM feedback, quality requirements, and production readiness
  • Review supplier inspection reports and ensure components meet required tolerances and quality standards
  • Support prototype builds, testing activities, root cause investigations, and system validation efforts
  • Participate in technical reviews and collaborate with software, systems, and cross-functional teams
  • Create assembly instructions and support manufacturing process development
  • Learn and apply relevant engineering codes and standards, including ASME A17.1
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a collaborative, high-performance engineering culture
  • Help shape the future growth of Beltways' engineering organization as the company scales

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field
  • 5-10 years of hands-on mechanical engineering experience, including successful commercialization of new products
  • Strong experience taking products from prototype through manufacturing and production scale-up
  • Advanced knowledge of Design for Manufacturability (DFM), GD&T, engineering documentation, and manufacturing processes
  • Proficiency with CAD software, preferably Siemens NX
  • Experience developing production-ready drawings, BOMs, assembly documentation, and engineering specifications
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing methods including machining, sheet metal fabrication, castings, extrusions, and production assembly
  • Experience working directly with suppliers, manufacturers, and external vendors
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment with significant ownership and accountability
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a high degree of initiative, creativity, and resourcefulness
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution
