Power Electronics Engineer – Defence / HV Electronics

Location: Baden Wurtenburg

Employment: Permanent / Full-time


We are looking for an experienced Power Electronics Engineer to join a highly skilled engineering team developing advanced electrical and power conversion technologies for defence applications.

This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer with experience in power supplies, converters, motor drives and high-voltage electronics to work on technically demanding systems where performance, reliability and robustness are critical.


The Role

As a Power Electronics Engineer, you will contribute to the design, development, integration and validation of advanced power electronic systems for demanding defence applications.


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and developing power supply and power conversion systems
  • Working with DC/DC and AC/DC converters
  • Developing and optimising motor drive and inverter systems
  • Working on high-voltage (HV) electronics and power architectures
  • Selecting and applying appropriate power semiconductor technologies
  • Performing electrical, thermal and system-level analysis and simulations
  • Supporting the development of control strategies for converters and motor drives
  • Designing and executing prototype testing and validation
  • Investigating efficiency, losses, thermal performance, reliability and system behaviour
  • Troubleshooting complex hardware and power electronics issues
  • Supporting system integration, qualification and environmental testing
  • Working closely with hardware, software, controls, mechanical and systems engineering teams
  • Contributing to technical specifications, design reviews and engineering documentation


You will ideally have:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Electronics or a related discipline
  • Professional experience in power electronics development
  • Experience with power supplies, converters, motor drives and/or HV electronics
  • Strong understanding of converter and inverter topologies
  • Experience with power semiconductor technologies such as IGBT, SiC and/or GaN
  • Knowledge of high-voltage design, insulation, creepage and clearance requirements
  • Experience with electrical, thermal and reliability analysis
  • Familiarity with simulation tools such as PLECS, MATLAB/Simulink, LTspice or similar
  • Practical experience with laboratory testing, validation and troubleshooting
  • Experience working within regulated, safety-critical or demanding engineering environments is advantageous
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • A hands-on and structured approach to engineering
  • Native-level German language skills are essential
  • Good working proficiency in English
  • Ability to work in an environment where security and confidentiality requirements apply
