Location: Baden-Württemberg, Germany
Employment: Permanent / Full-time
We are looking for an experienced Power Electronics Engineer to join a technically advanced engineering team developing next-generation electrical and power conversion systems for the rail industry.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with experience in traction converters, auxiliary power systems and electrical drives who wants to work on highly reliable, efficient and safety-critical railway technologies.
The Role
As a Power Electronics Engineer, you will contribute to the design, development, integration and validation of advanced power conversion systems for railway applications.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Designing and developing traction converter systems for rail vehicles
- Working on auxiliary power supply and converter systems
- Developing and optimising power electronic stages for railway applications
- Supporting the development of motor drives and traction drive systems
- Working with high-voltage DC and AC electrical systems
- Selecting and applying appropriate IGBT, SiC and other power semiconductor technologies
- Performing electrical, thermal and system-level analysis and simulations
- Developing and optimising converter and motor-control strategies
- Supporting prototype development, commissioning and system validation
- Performing testing, troubleshooting and performance optimisation
- Analysing efficiency, losses, thermal performance, reliability and power quality
- Supporting environmental, EMC and qualification testing
- Working closely with hardware, software, controls, mechanical and systems engineering teams
- Contributing to technical specifications, design reviews and engineering documentation
You will ideally have:
- A degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Electronics or a related discipline
- Professional experience in power electronics development
- Experience with traction converters, auxiliary power supplies and/or motor drives
- Strong understanding of inverter and converter topologies
- Experience with high-voltage power electronics
- Knowledge of power semiconductor technologies such as IGBT and SiC
- Understanding of motor control and electrical drive systems
- Knowledge of thermal management, switching losses and EMC/EMI
- Experience with simulation tools such as PLECS, MATLAB/Simulink, LTspice or similar
- Practical experience with prototype testing, validation and troubleshooting
- Experience working within railway, automotive, aerospace or other safety-critical environments is advantageous
- Knowledge of relevant railway standards and certification requirements is a strong advantage
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- A hands-on and structured approach to engineering
- Native-level German language skills are essential
- Good working proficiency in English
